Hi all. Would appreciate some help from those of you with longer memories, and more extensive libraries, regarding the following query:
Is there a term of art, akin to "d**l re****y," for the exchange of a ma***d object, specifically from a group of ma***d objects, for a non-ma***d object? If so, would be great to hear from you either here or via pm. Thanks in advance. |

I like your new name.
As for your question, I don't fully understand, because the exchange you describe doesn't seem like DR to me.

Sorry if I wasn't clear. I don't mean that it is an example of DR. I'm looking for the umbrella term, or category, that the exchange would fall under. Much like there are many results that all rely on DR, I was wondering if this methodology, with its various forms, also has a similar, overarching label.

It's called Scuff Ringing (after the old gambler's practice of ringing out a scuffed deck). Fake mentalist Prof B. Ardcomb has a 4 part DVD series coming out about it to go with last years limited edition 800 page Encyclopaedia of Scuff Ringing.

I didn't mean to imply it is related to DR. I'll try again:
From my point of view, DR is a category of methods. There are lots of different types of effects that all rely on DR. So no matter the actual outcome of the effect; i.e. how it looks to audience, the methodology is DR. All of the different effects that rely on DR fall into the DR category. Now, there is another category of methods, but I don't know what to call it. An effect in this category might look like this. Five envelopes with identical poker chips inside are given to spectators. A coin is on the table. While your back is turned, one of the spectators takes out their poker chip, puts it on the table, takes the coin, and puts it in their envelope. Now you can track where the coin is after turning around. Given that there are lots of different effects that would use that methodology, does this category of methodology have a name? |

I think it's going to be easier to talk about this after 50 posts. Hope to continue the discussion with you all in IT later.

I think you'll find most people don't even like to discuss Sc**f R**g**g downstairs, out of respect for the wishes of the Professor.

The professor is drunk and has r*ng ar**nd the c*ll*r. His laundress is sober, however, and promises to return his unmentionables in a discreet and newbie-friendly package. Scuff away, ye grizzled conjurors.
