After taking a 7 year break from performing I am back on stage(as well as close up) and looking for ordinary objects that do extraordinary things. The Device fits that need perfectly http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/5044
The device itself is something that you can use to do the dirty work as well as integrate it into the routine. This is something I will definitely use often.

Docc Hilford is a genius. Genius performer. Genius inventor. Genius marketer. I'm going to have to get The Device now just to satisfy my curiosity.

Matchbox but I think you could adapt the idea to other items.

Although it's clever, I will never ever perform this. It really doesn't suit my style, might suit yours. Asked for a refund

Sashac without revealing method, can you share the limitations of why this wouldn't fit your style

I don't want to say too much, but let's just say that you have to put some very small pieces of paper (which spectators have written on) inside of a matchbox and then (if you'd like) cover all of that with a rubber band. That just seems VERY weird to me. Don't get me wrong, it's clever (even though I've seen a lot of similar things) and works well.

I rather agree with Sashac....if it were a page or two in a printed book, you'd think 'Clever!' and then probably ignore the whole thing. The regular price is $20??? Way too much futzing and putzing, and his idea behind the 'switch out' to leave behind a non-gaffed item is both impractical and probably undoable. I'd guess there's no way Docc Hilford ever performs any of this...maybe demo's it, but perform? Never.
A spirit messge inside a matchbox? Ooh, scary. BTW, when was the last time anyone has seen a real matchbox out and about in the real world? Clever, but contrived, impractical and most probably unusable. Will end up in the back of your digital drawer. It's just 40 years too late. .

From memory, when Docc released this earlier this year, he did so on the proviso that ALL sales were going to a homeless charity.
That was a very kind gesture, in my world. Robert.

After using it over 30 times in performance, I can assure you that spectators do not suspect a thing! Of course, as with any gimmick, you MUST practice until you feel comfortable using it, or becomes second nature. I enjoy using it, even though I like to eliminate as many props from my performances as possible! |

Robert- Thanks, its interesting to hear from a user. What context are you in, what environment is best for it? Do you do any other ****** work during your show? Do you do this seancey and ceremonial, or for quicker effects? Sit down? Strolling, Sceance??
How long before you get to be creditable with it? As a general estimate. The up side of it is the clear and easy result, and the justified actions surrounding that. That is sweet, but the Device itself, to me, limits its use for most performers.

Tom, I have used this in close up, parlour, and private reading settings. I normally perform in the corporate world. Not once was I asked to hand it out for examination. I have found it works in pretty much all the environments I listed. However, I like to use it more in private reading settings.

Well worth the download...I assumed the joke of him in pain is how we got the secret out of him. Well produced...he even mentions matchbox in the trailer...no big giveaway there. I don't do seances and bought it out of curiosity. It's well done. Makes me want to use a candle to just to use it.

Before everyone believes the hype if you take a look at the penguin page from actual purchases the reviews tell all
With one exception most give this 2 stars at best example of what people think are show below "I rarely write comments at penguin, but this one made me to do so. First of all this is really not worth the idea. you can do a lot more to get info from the spectator like centre tear and lot other things. method doestnt look natural to be and the video is deceptive. he should have at least shown what its like and left people to decide whether they want it or not" Another said you could do more with a C***** T*** Save your cash and don't believe the hype |
