"Copenetro" was the name given to a Bob Kline USA pirated (1947) version of a coin effect invented by British magician Jack Hughes in 1937. It was a catchier name than the one given it by Hughes ("Visible Coins in Glass") so that name seems to have stuck. Our "poor man's" version (not pirated) takes place in a Dollar Tree Cardboard Box shaped like a haunted house, and the vanished four to six coins (ordinary quarters) noisily appear one-by-one in an empty sealed glass salt shaker (also a Dollar Tree purchase) trapped inside the house.

If a deck of cards is used instead of a book, Harry's post seems "right on". Did you check this out?

The latest, legit, licensed version was Abbott's Jack Hughes Model Visible Coins to Glass; they haven't made them in years and who knows, if when, they will ever be available again. It's a nice prop.
For those who have never seen one, here is a link: https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/v......ss-combo |

Yes, FWIW, the coin stand pictured in the link in my post WAS the one originally supplied with the Abbott's/Hughes Model Visible Coins in Glass, or, at least WAS supplied with the prop for a time.....I know...because when I bought mine, that is the stand that came with it. Also, FWIW, to the best of my knowledge, there have been only two versions made of this: The Kline/Copentro and the Abbott's/Hughes. On the other hand, there have been at least THREE versions made of the "Coins to glass from Cardbox" made,,,,,,Tannen's Dr. Marty Schwartz version, Viking/Collector's Workshop Version, and the Kennedy Version in the link shown in Bill Hegbli's post, above. There may have been more variations of this made too that I am not aware of. Although each is a tad different in construction and methodology (ie" One coin dropping VS. Four coins, or dropping from/through Card box, or into nested glasses, the trick's plot, as seen by spectators, is basicly the same, and that is "A coin or coins vanishes, and then instantly (and audibly as well as visually) re-appears in a glass. Even though I admit to loving and owning clever Magic Props like those mentioned here (and trust me, just like many of you, if nor most of you who read this forum, I have spent significantly more than a couple or three dollars on Magic Props like these.....BUT......all things being equal, I have learned over the years to keep it simple and use sleight of hand whenever possible to accomplish a certain trick. Having said that, the sleight of hand coins to glass version that I use is Dan Fleshman's version.........if you've seen Dan do it for you......chances are you would be using it, too... Either way, the coins to glass plot is GOOD MAGIC....visual....audible.....easily presentable to audiences of all ages, different cultures.. and who speak different languages....meaning: no possible "Misunderstanding on the audiences' part" IE: A simple Plot: Coins Vanish and then Re-Appear, and right in front of their faces! |

Hello Rainboguy
I'm thinking that the vintage Hughes set in our collection may be an actual Hughes original or a very old Abbott's. We definitely did not purchase it directly from Abbott's. The stand you pictured was a stand alone piece sold in the old Abbott catalogs. Without digging out a catalog, I will say I THINK this was called the Ultra Modern Coin Stand. They probably included it with the main apparatus because they already had it in stock. Julie |

Here is the Cesaral version (CCP). I’m not very clear on the effect but 3 coins can be made to disappear and appear in the glass and they can be in any order. For demo purposes I only made the 1/2 dollar vanish and appear but as I mentioned all 3 and in any order can be made to vanish and appear.
Any questions please feel free to contact me.

They had glitter drum material glued on the outside. on the stand. This was in their catalog, from where I purchased it in the early 1970's. I sold it to Hank Moorehouse a used magic dealer. He was not happy with it, or the quality, but it was an original Harry Stanley model. |
