I have a Copper/Silver/Brass set and I am trying to identify who made it. The Chinese coin has two engraved characters on each side, the coin is all brass with no black background like some coins have. What I think is a unique identifying feature is that one of the characters is black and the other is red (the paint is applied into the engraving). If I can figure out how to post a photo in this post I would. Anyone think they know what maker of gaffed coin sets used this type of Chinese coin?
Thanks! Mike |

You are so lucky to be able to go through all those old sets. I would love that so much. Where do you get these collections?

I've been very lucky in finding collections. On more than one occasion I have had someone come up to me after a show and tell me about a deceased relative that used to do magic and that they have boxes of his old magic in storage and want to know if I would like to buy it. Amazingly this exact scenario has happened a few times! I have also bought large lots at auctions, that's the best way to get a lot of magic for an affordable price. Of course you end up getting some not so great stuff in the lot, but it is like a treasure hunt.

I just heard from a friend that this coin set is actually Eddie Gibson's Chinese Bit (not Copper/Silver/Brass because it has the silver plug in the shell). And it appears Eddie Gibson used different styles of Chinese coins at different times. Although my friend says the set may have also been made by Fred Lowe.
