I have developed a draft eBook on the incredible possibilities of the "Rose" purse (Spiral Purse)
Not only is this collapsible leather purse ideal for holding your special coins, but can be used as a prop for many effects. Its uniques design allows for moves with natural handling that mask a variety of Sleights. I would request that several interested members review this draft before I document additional effects. I am considering removing all of the extensive listing of Moves, Slights, Subtleties into a separate Handbook, That could be opened along side of nay future Effects for reference. Is this a good idea? For example, one routine called PauperPurse is a sort of reverse MIsers Dream with 12-120 coins produced from the purse continuously shown empty -- and your hands! The study of the many possible effects involved seem difficult if the reader has to flip back and forth to the instructions of the Sleights. any interested in participating can contact me at gusarimagic@comcast.net a sample effect from the eBook Enter the Rose Effect: A Spiral Purse is displayed and opened to reveal three half dollars. Two of these are placed on the table and the third left in the purse now placed on the table. The two coins are dropped into the left hand, “clink,” and a wave by the empty right hand. The left hand is opened to reveal only one coin! This is dropped on the table and the purse opened to reveal two coins inside. This is again closed and placed on the table. The last coin is visibly taken into the right fingers from the now empty left hand. It vanishes and is also found back in the purse.

If it was a print-only book/pamphlet I could see where having that printed/bound separately could be useful, but as an eBook (PDF?) it's easy enough to just open that section in a separate window, or print off just the needed pages. Also, as an eBook it would be _extremely_ useful to use hyperlinks to jump to the appropriate reference section when clicking on a sleight name. Generic, made-up example: Quote:
Next, drop the concealed copper coin from CLASSIC PALM into FINGERTIP REST and execute a BRAZILIAN POLKA When selected/clicked, the words in ALL CAPS BOLD would jump to the section that details that move/sleight. Most reader apps have features that would let you go back to your previous place after reviewing that section. |

Yeas, Inig -- that is what I have describe din the present book.
But, a PDF done like that becomes very large and can't be send by regular eMail. It also takes a lot of work to do that The other thought is financial, If I sell a complete book it can be pirated. If I sell them separately then the Handbooks can be licensed with lifetime upgrades and new effects provided only to those who purchased from me. That way the new booklets can be inexpensive and the Handbook purchased only once. Just a thought.

Size shouldn't be a problem -- you can always E-mail a link to a private file on Dropbox, etc. (more below).
It's your material, and you need to do what's best for you and your situation, but from a technology perspective, unfortunately there's nothing you can sell me that can't be pirated, and most efforts to prevent piracy end up being a hassle only for the honest paying customer. I think about the best you can do is to put some kind of digital watermark on each person's copy, so if one shows up on a pirate site you know whose it was. but even that doesn't prove they're the one who posted it. People accidentally share their file systems to the world every day, exposing detailed personal information, financial details, etc. I just played around a bit with MS-Word 2010 and Open Office 4 (Windows versions). I'll E-mail you the details but it looks like using the "Export to PDF" feature from Open Office doesn't increase file size nearly as much as "Save as..." to PDF from MS-Word. |
