Paul from Boston just posted his version of Coins Across. He is trying something different for the first transfer. Any thoughts?

I really like the first coin across - I still can't work out how he is concealing it.
However, from then on, the routine is really contrived. I guess it would be better with patter and from the front, but he shouldn't need to adjust the coins twice, then adjust the coin to a different position before tipping just the right hand coins on the table. All of that needs a lot of work to be justified for the spectator. I shouldn't be guessing on methods on this forum, but my only guess involves that coin being gimmicked in a certain way. If that is a genuine coin to appear in the right hand, then that is phenomenal! |

Seems to look better from above, than if you were right in front of him. I think it needs more work to smooth it out (& that thumb looks noticeably very stiff), it's somewhat choppy looking, but there's some potential there too, I suppose. Think it would also benefit from being slowed down a bit. Just my 2 cents.

I've been doing a coins across for the last 40+ years that came from a Futagawa (sp?) lecture. It's ultra simple, uses only a th*m p*lm, and the one ah**d principle.Ross Bertram didn't like it, but laymen do! A few years ago, Daryl did a similar bit, but it was a "one behind" principle!
I had a club date for a corporate banquet in Chicago. I finished, and was waiting in the bar for the program chairman to bring my check, and enjoying a little liquid refreshment. The chairman arrived and we visited for a minute. He mentioned that the magician they had had the previous year, had done a very clever coin trick. (Probably "WINGED SILVER" from the way he described it) So, I did Hang Pin Chien (sp? again) He said, "That was clever!" and again mentioned the guy from last year. So, I did another coin transposition. (It may have been MATRIX.) I did a COPPER/SILVER bit. He liked that, too,but he he mentioned that guy last year again! It was a csse of "hindsight mirage"! So the next day, I called Howard Schultz and asked: "Who played that date last year?" Howared dug in his file, and said "Dick ________!" The next time that I saw Diok, I ssked him what coin trick it was. He said he had gotten it from Futagawa's lecture, and tipped the work. I've done it ever since! (Any trick that csn impress a layman THAT much, is worth learning!

I've been looking for a title for a new eBook on magic theory.
"Hindsight Mirage" could work. Is that original or have a source?

Hi Ken!
I usually use the old expression; "Hindsight 20/20", but that didn't "say it" in this situation. ("20/20" = "excellent") His hindsight (a year later) was a mirage. When he first saw the trick (Futagawa's Eight Coins Across") the magic happened in the only place it could (his mind). The effect, which made the magic happen, became better (like good wine!)as it "aged" in his mind, As he talked about it, he "embellished" it IN HIS MIND. Any magician who has been "around" has heard a trick described by a layman, who was deceived by s trick he had seen. The layman tends to exaggerate, what he saw, and says that (for example)the magician poured 5 gallons of water out of that pot! (a quart size Lota) NOTHING that I could do that night could possibly be better (or as good as)his mental picture. Like the "oasis" in the desert,it was a mirage! When Dick Schick showed me Futagawa's routine, I figured that any trick that could make that big an impression on one man who had seen it, was definitely worth learning. The nice thing was that it was mostly a matter of presentation, with a minimum of skill. If you think that my "brilliant" (?) phrase would make a good title, you are most welcome to use my "intellectual property"!!!!! hee hee

I didn't like it. Way too many times the hands were obviously too busy and moving. Plus the HPC should be skipped altogether, at least until he masters it. Everything from the top view - dead ahead view would be too obvious.

There are hundreds of versions of coins across. They don't need to be difficult, just convincing and entertaining. I would look for something else over this version.
S.E.M. (The Sun, the Moon, and the Earth) is a sun and moon routine unlike any other. Limited to 100 sets, here is the promo:

I don't think that a closed fists three coins across should use a gaff or an extra coin, it's just too much work for such a simple trick.
Also, there were a lot of unnatural moves in this routine. |

I think there are more simple versions that are more angle friendly especially where the first coin is concerned.

Thank you all for your input on the video. It's Paul from Boston. I wouldn't say its the best video and the smoothest.
What other coins across routines would you consider to be your favorite. Paul |

For me I have 3 versions of coins across that I swear by for walk around situations I love Jay Sankeys Mr Clean Coins Across and use this all the time when put on the spot, for tables I use 3 fly the bulk of my 3 fly routine is Daryl's 3 fly 111 with the second phase coming from Mark Mason's 3 fly routine from one of his old dvds and my final version that I use is good old flying eagles, all very solid routines in my opinion.
