For those of you who have a performing name, do you use it throughout your contact with a client? I am not referring so much to names that sound like names (Max Maven instead of Phil Goldstein), but rather names that are clearly stage name (Horseapples the Clown). When you call people, is it always "Hi, this is Horseapples calling", and do you only use "Horseapples" in your contracts? In today's day and age, I would think come people would be hesitant to book someone who always used a pseudonym, especially when the adult with the funny name is working with kids.
Surely there are places/people who want or need to know your true identity, such as for tax documents. There is no reason whatsoever for my asking other than idle curiosity. |

I only use my real name with all adult correspondence. I use it in my email address, on my website for the "about us" page and such. I never really gave it a thought. Now I wonder where others draw the line. For example, I see others who use their stage name for email addresses and make no mention of their real name on their websites.

I kind of make a joke out of it. At the the beginning of the show I welcome everyone and tell them that the show is called "Dr. Delusions Illlusions", but you can call me anything you like, Dr. Delusion, Dr. Dingbat or call me by my real name "Bob". But, during and after the show almost everyone calls me Dr. Delusion.

This isn't the same, but I had a telemarketer call me that had a heavy Indian accent. I guess he read my website name and thought it was my name by omitted the "by" in "ashowbyjoe.com". When I answered the phone, he ask in a confused way "uh,can I speak to as*hole Joe?". I was upset, but broke out in laughter. I calmly said that it was A Show by Joe. There was a small pause, which then he responded with "oh, that makes more sense", and he hung up. I guess he was embarrassed by that because I never had a telemarketer hang up that fast.

I always say, 'The Great Zucchini'. If I call up somewhere(a law firm, wherever) and a secretary answers, I say, 'tell them The Great Zucchini is on the line.

When law firms call me, I tell them I'm the Great Zuchini also. Ha ha. When I answer the phone, I say hello this is Dan cause it says ask for Dan in some spots on my website. But when I call clients I say this is Dan Freed - The Amazing Spaghetti.

The reason I use a stage name is due to fact my real one is the same as a well known American actor.

I've been using Tricky Ricky for years performing for children and adukts and I made a fair living.
Never mind the name, it only gets their attention, it's you the performer that gets the booking by your performance. Show name or not--you better be good or you won't be getting the calls. Tricky Ricky |

Yes, but I was asking what you use when you speak with adults, what your paycheck says, and so on. For example, is "Tricky Ricky" the only name they see on a contract, or does your real name work its way in there at times?

My contract heading is Tricky Ricky, at the bottom of the contract states--checks are to be made out to Richard Lyn. If they put Tricky Ricky it's still cashable.
I don't find it a problem at all. Ricky |

I use my performing name "Josh London" all the time, emails, calls, even checks are payable to Josh London (have a FTB under my LLC for that).
Josh Ps. My real last name is 12 letters long and Polish so no one could pronounce it if they tried
