Dear fellows,
i am searching for a magician, who I believe is quoted in the book Modern Enchantments of Simon During. I am not able to find the quote in my notes or underlined texts and it is quite important as well as I believe it is interesting for the community. Orson Welles made a funny and misterious short video for his serie "Orson Welles' Magic Show" (1976-85), in which he talks about a magician called Abu Khan. I saw this movie (the actual version, edited by Stefan Drößler and conserved in the Filmmuseum München) and there you can see this quite annoying method: A man will be hipnotised by smashing him with a hammer while he is standing against the background courtain. At the time (exactly one year from today) in which I saw the movie, I thought it was a joke of Welles but I am sure I readed about it somewhere, and quite sure that it was in the book of Simon During. I am writing my Master Thesis in Germany with the topic Magic and Contemporary Art and this particular detail would be great to be mentioned propertly in my work. It would be interesting to unveil the magician and talk about him and why this method was then possible. If you can help me I would appreciate it and if I find it myself, be sure I will write here something valuable about the topic! Sincerely yours, Alfonso Rituerto |
