Does this make sense to anyone? I recently bought a book with a technical drawing of a coin box by this name and Im wondering if it means anything to any of you (Have you seen one?)
Interestingly enough, the book was signed by many people including Slydini among others...

The book is insignificant, that is why I didn't mention this. But I didn't make myself clear... the drawing is A DRAWING, in pencil that someone painstakingly drew in the (normally) blank pages of the book. It is the plans for a coin box titled above and mentions that these were measurements taken from something owned by a Larry Weeks in '66
Incidentally, the book is the hardbound Modern Coin Magic. But that has no bearing on my question.

You found someone's private notes on a page and want to know about the coin box. Okay, yes I recall hearing that name related to one of the many coinbox and gaffed coin sets that were sold in the 1970s. At that time, folks from JG Thompson to Bobby Bernard had their coinbox ideas produced. All had something to offer. Some were more examinable and/or effective in the hands of non-coinmen than others. For example, the Bernard box might not be examinable, though it is designed to facilitate some amazing routine options. For the generalist, Fred Lowe had a coinbox set that was very good. The box had a decent sized hole in the lid and box bottom so you could see the coins inside... till they vanished etc. Sorry I don't recall the exact niceties of the particular design by name.

Well, Decker, I assume from your answer and your insistance that the nature of the book is of no consequence that the book is the hardbound first edition of MCM. The Al-n-Nate box is fully described in the revised edition (the "NEW Modern Coin Magic") also often refered to as the "hardbound" MCM, ever since MCM appeared in softcover.
So, if all of this is true, you may have a copy of the book that was annotated with changes intended for the revised edition. That might be interesting. On the other hand, you may have a copy of the revised edition on the front of which someone copied a sketch of the Al-n-Nate box that appears inside. Not quite as interesting. Are the signatures made out to anyone in particular?

The Al-N-Nate coin box is described on page 489 of the New Modern Coin Magic by Bobo.
The name is made up of Al Baker and Nate Leipzig. It is a utility item. It is similar to the Bert Kalmar box. |

Okay, yes... a coinbox without a lid and a HUGE hole in the bottom of the box. Almost a ring with a rim. A Johnson product too as I recall.
Were there any additional drawings in that book?

Oops sorry guys. This is the revised edition. The reason I said it had nothing to do with the book was because I was trying to emphasize that it was hand drawn... not printed. I guess the previous owner didn't know where to get a version of that box and possibly had to have one made?
All the signatures and whatnot, and also the news clippings, notes etc. got me thinking I might have something important... but aparantly not as important as I had hoped. The signature in the front (John Braun is made out to someone I cannot make out the cursive) none of the others are, but there are many of them throughout the book. Thanks for the help guys...
