I get a set the Miracle Cups & Coins, did someone have a good routine on this set of coin cups?
Thanks. |

Doug Brewer has a routine in his book, "The Unexpected Visitor"
He also has a manuscript of 9 routines with the coin cup you can buy it for $15 at his website. |

They are an odd combination of props. Not sure whether to use mouth up or mouth down. Very tough to avoid doing a chop cup routine with the thing. :o)

Thanks for the plug, Dan! BTW, JT, that was my intention of doing this booklet (titled "The Modern Coin Cup"). Doing a chop cup routine is the obvious choice, so my goal was to make the magic incidental to the cup. I think I (along with the many contributors to the booklet) achieved this. Along with the routines are, what I consider, several ingenious moves created by my LA magician friend Bob Bolivar. The booklet is fully illustrated and available from me at the link Dan listed above. I've spent a lot of man-hours with this prop, so if anyone has any general questions please ask away . . .

Folks I picked up the Cup and booklet from Doug at COINvention and let me tell you, if you're looking for some great ideas and routines for your coin cup, you're going to want to pick up Doug's booklet.

I owned a set back in the 70's, but got rid of them because they "rattled." Are the current ones made any better?

Let me know when they come in Dixie style. We have those at the office. Metal shot glasses would have people looking for a bottle in my desk.

These don't "rattle", which would stem from a poor fit with the gaffed coin and the bottom of the cup. Very well made.

Thanks Doug.
Indeed it was a poor fit. Actually all of them fit poorly, as any coin rattled in any cup. If the new ones are indeed better, I may have to spring for a new set. I love the effect. Are they made by the same folks who made the old ones? |

Remember now, we're talking about a specific gaffed coin for the cup. Each cup comes with a half dollar that has been gaffed to match the bottom of the cup. You wouldn't be able to mix and match different coins unless you had them made up (by Lassen, for example). These cups are the same that were provided by Al Cohen (in DC) but are now put out by Jerry Mentzer (same coin cups, different store front). I think they are really well made. If you have a micro chop cup from Loomis you might consider getting a gaffed coin from him. Depending on the cup you have (copper or silver) he can provide a matching coin. Otherwise, I think these cups work great. There's a picture of the cup on my webpage http://www.dougbrewermagic.com under the "products" section. I offer them at a discount as an incentive to visit my page Hope this helps.

I no longer have them.
But I remember that each gaffed coin (all 3) rattled a bit in each cup. They also tarnished badly on the gaffed side. I will check out your site. Thanks so much. |

To George,
Thanks for the plug and the dynamite review. Set 8 of the first run of 10 has now been sold. We may or may not do one more run of 10. But if we do, that will be all. Dennis Loomis http://www.loomismagic.com

I just got one of the Riser/Loomis Copper Micro Chop Cups and it is a beautiful prop. The Sacagewea dollars fits perfectly, so I can throw away my P&L Okio box and do a completely 21st century coin routine with current currency.
Nothing would get done at all, if man waited so long that no one could find fault with it.

Let me add to the praise. The Micro Chop Cup set is BEAUTIFUL! It works perfectly for a coin. That is one of reasons I bought it. I already own the two other Micro Chop Cups ( which are also wonderful props ).
