Finally had an opportunity to pick up the Powell version of the Enchanted Ring. As noted above I also own the Tannen, Diamond and Anverdi versions.
Overall it is a beautiful looking prop, and in my opinion the nicest looking version released yet. A sold wooden block, nicely finished, and a silver bracelet with a finish that allows an audible convincer that the ring is on the pin. The pin itself is beautiful and looks like an antique hat pin. The block is easy to set and releases well. As with all versions of this prop there are pros and cons and it is no differnt with this one. The two cons I have with this version are: 1) When the ring releases their is a small audible "click". Not a huge issue but the other versions I have are totally silent. 2) The hat pin is "attracted" to one side of the block. This may be noticed by a spectator examining the props together. Again the other versions do not have this issue. This prop is quite pricey at $95... if it was not for the two issues above I would recommend it without hesitation. Overall I am happy to have it in the collection. John |

I too have also owned all versions of this effect and am very happy with the Powell version. Certainly the Powell version is the best quality and the props don't look as "proppy" as the older versions.
I also agree with the two "cons" that John points out, but they are minor. First, there is an audible click, but you can cover it by making it look like the ring is banging against the pin before you lift it out, or, you can snap your fingers as you pull the ring off. So that isn't a big issue. Second, both the ring and hatpin are metal and thus both items will be attracted to the outside of one side of the block (the pin less so). However, the discovery of this by your spectator is unlikely unless you allow them to "play" with the props together for a time. Usually all heat is on the ring and pin, so they will want to check those out again. They won't be interested in the block unless they want to replicate the whole set up, so you should avoid having them attempt to replicate the penetration. By the way, that "attraction" against the block is an advantage. For those of us who hate the initial "set" move because it looks awkward and sometimes too obvious, I found that you can set the Powell mechanism by simply holding the block upside down and as you are putting the ring in the slot, you touch the ring to the lower outside of the block, which trips the mechanism and releases the gimmick for you, all silently! For that reason alone, I think it is a definite improvement. I think the new Powell Enchanted Ring is definitely worth the price. |

Is it the same size as the Anverdi's version? (I didn't find the dimensions info thru the links.) Thanks!

Hi simcoscor. It is definitely larger that the Anverdi model, do not have it with me at work to measure but is more than twice the size. It is larger than any of the other three versions I own. Tdowell, I look forward to trying your release method when I go home tonight... thanks for sharing. I have to admit the small "click" when it releases bugs me a bit, but not a major performance issue.

Tried tdowell's set-up idea last night and it works great. This is a unique feature to the Powell version and makes the handling a little more "elegant".
Cheers, John |

Hey, I just found that a PK ring resets my Anverdi as well..... not my Diamond, not my Tannens. That really keeps the Anverdi at the top of the heap, in my opinion, including the Dave Powell.
