One of the best things I have read on the Café in some time:

Yes it is.
There is absurdity There is comedy There is an apparent mistake There is acting There is a surprise There is no awful sleight-of-hand There is no attempt to over-do it with magicianny crap that puts up a wall between the performer and his audience I loved it. We should all ponder why something so simple is so good.

>>>>>>>ABSOLUTELY DELIGHTFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!<<<<<<<<<<(I just watched the performance)
Frank, (and Kabbalah, too!) I agree! I have enjoyed watching the Professor, and a plethora of prestidigitators perform the Cs&Bs over the years. Many were marvelous performers of this ancient bit of magic, but, I must admit that I was watching as a prestidigitator. One of Jay Marshall's favorite expressions (BTW, Jay did a nice c&b routine.)was "EDIT, EDIT, EDIT"! Many of those whom I have seen perform the cx&bs, who have spent hours, days, months, perhaps years, "perfecting" their presentation, become "greedy with a principle". They "must" present EVERY possible variation"! The tendency is to go (as Dr. Flesch put it: "On beyond Zebra". The cardicians' "Acrobatic Card" is somewhat comparable. Who is/was the guy who did that delightful presentation??? He certainly proves the point that, "It's' the PERFORMER, NOT THE PROP!" (He "done good"!!!) --NO! He "done" GREAT!!! I have lived by the motto: KIS MIF, all of my life. (Keep It Simple Make It Fun).

The paper ball vanish! YES! I had to watch the routine 3 times! It reminded me of Harry Blackstone Sr.'s -- THE DUCK INN! If you ever meet Nick Ruggiero, now retired in Arizona, ask HIM about the DUCK INN! (HE was really the guy who, "accidentally", made the (dozen!) ducks disappear!!!
I really am a "believer" in perverse "magic". It's the "backbone" of my golf ball routine. I use the concept, very briefly, just before the coin pail finish. It also gets involved, naturally, with Abbott's Tantalizing Wand. It "sells" the finish of the Tip-Cee bottle, and gets a great laugh. Watching Steve Delaney, I really LOL!!!! Thanks Kabbalah for this wonderful TREAT! O

The sad thing is, it will go unnoticed by *magicians*.
Too bad most won't appreciate the entertainment value and take this as something to study. And ask, as Frank so thoughtfully did, why something so simple is so elegant?

It is elegant because instead of looking as if he is using superior skill to trick us, he is playing a game with himself, and then losing in an amusing, amazing way. No complex moves, or convoluted plot, just a simple game.

I guarantee that in the bars where I work, if Joey Sixpack magician does the usual (bad) Cs&Bs at one end of the bar, and I do something like this at the other end of the bar, I will have a group of laughing customers and Joey will have silence. It truly does give us something to contemplate. Scotty York would do the Dime and Penny behind the bar. It was sensational the way he performed this much maligned trick. The reactions he got were sensational. People would return to the bar with friends just to see this...believe it or not! Presentation is everything!

I have no idea how it was done. I only have guesses and none of them seem likely.
