Hey guys. Question for anyone who has traveled on a cruise ship and brought their magic/mentalism items. I'm going on a little vacation with many family members and friends and I'm performing For them. I would like to bring some of my items I perform in my shows. A few electronics I am concerned about. I have heard security on ships are tougher than airplanes. Thanks for any info

If there is a professional magician or mentalist booked to perform on the ship while you're there, you should introduce yourself and ask them what effects they'll be doing. You wouldn't want to hurt their shows by doing the same effects before they do. You should also make sure they'll be comfortable with you performing on their ship for their audience. It's just professional courtesy. Most performers probably wouldn't mind, as long as you don't do the same effects as them, but some might not want you to steal their thunder.
I was on a cruise in January and the security would not have been a problem to bring on electronics. But if you want to be 100% safe, scrap the electronic toys and learn some good billet moves or strong mentalism with playing cards. It's an okay trick to reveal the spot on a die from one to six. It's a miracle to reveal the name of a place or a person that someone is thinking of. Fortunately, pencils, paper and cards are plentiful on ships, so you won't need to worry about security. |

Thanks Corriveau! I appreciate the advice. You are very right. I'll ask if it's ok if there is another performer. billets are some powerful stuff!! I've been doing a lot of material from Richard Busch. Pretty cool stuff. Ive been practicing and using name and place from Mr. Cassidy. I really like his approach with billet work.

I was performing Blues Brothers on a cruise line ... It was time for the show and as I unpacked I realized they'd taken the whip and handcuffs (Actually leg cuffs with chain) and the key, also on a long chain. out of my props... and didn't say a word.
