I often give effects away to folks on the Café, feeling that having my "children" performed is more important than monetary reward or something -- just me .
But, one the "connection" is made I suddenly get unsolicited offers to sell me something. Not only magic effects, but weird offerings of solutions for problems I never had or imagine. Is this on the increase? Why is simple communication taken as permission for abuse? Often the forced link is difficult to "unsubscribe." Say what, I never "subscribed" in the first place. For example, I recently contacted a "famous magician" with a question about his use of a name for an effect (he claimed originality which is incorrect). No problem, just curious about why that name was chosen. I received a brief, "I'll check it out." but nothing else. Yet, now I get a weekly notice of "latest products" that I can't get rid of, most of which are too expensive even if I was interested. Where did this "implied permission" come from?

No permission, but rather that you are now on his mailing list. Probably a send to all contacts response. Easiest thing to do is label it as junk mail and move on.

My point. Why should anyone be on a "all contacts" marketing list? To me that assumes permission never granted or suggested.
Even worse when it say, Ken, just for you ..." Why should I have to do anything? Labeling it as junk will also eliminate any real communication. I am interested in what people think, just not their presumptive junk. If you go to doctor would you accept an invitation to a tupperware party along with your prescription? What next -- IRS will send you a viagra ad along with your tax return?
