E.V.P.
Creator: Alan Rorrison Publisher: Murphy's Magic MSRP: $ 99.99 Skill Level: all skill levels DVD Run time: 1 hour 2 minutes Type of effect: Spirit voice revelation Manufacturer's Write Up: EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomenon) are electronic recordings interpreted as voices from the dead or other paranormal sources. Alan Rorrison's latest masterpiece, EVP, allows you to seemingly harvest voices from the other side and make them answer the questions of your spectator ON THEIR PHONE. Your shell-shocked spectator will leave the encounter with the likely evidence of a spirit's voice on their phone, as they replay it over and over, in utter disbelief. How accurate is the ad copy? Very accurate, this is exactly what happens What's in the box? A url and passcode for the downloadable teaching and the device. Key points: Can be used with any spectator's smart phone. You will be able to make fully customizable spirit voice responses in any language or gender. The device is easy to carry, always ready to go and beginners to top pros can use it. How are the production values: Awesome! Shot in HD, live performance and multiple studio performances are offered. Is it well made: This is professionally engineered technology that would be difficult for the average performer to replicate. Is it well taught: You get everything, teaching for both PC and MAC users, spirit question ideas, short sleeve and even a tshirt option setup, and over an hour of instruction. My thoughts: This is an awesome utility, Murphy's Magic and Alan Rorrison have thought of everything; and after watching it, and playing with it a few times you should be ready to go. Storage? Does it "pack flat?" Despite the huge box that it comes in, the utility is remarkable small and lightweight. It could be carried on your person all day long with little impact or discomfort. How practical is this in the real world? Does it "play big?" Almost "too big." There are several warnings on the DVD that this effect has the potential to actually scare people and convince them that this is a real occurrence and not a "trick." How original is this idea? Séance style tricks where a medium talks to the dead have been around for hundreds of years however, what Allan has done is created a unique convincer that is both highly impactful, but .... examinable. Remember, this happens with a spectator's phone and they get to keep the audio file forever! Overall score: 10/10 + If you want to see my full review with even more of my opinions and ideas you can visit this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T5Q8lTI5nvM |

Hi David,
Cesar Alonso of Cesaral Magic put out the effect of capturing EVP on a spectator's smart phone three years ago. As he expressed to Alan in another thread, "May be you are not using the same method that I use (I have to check this), but what is a fact is that you copied 100% the effect that I released 3 years ago with my Cesaral Spirit Sounds. I don't think that this is fair." In fact, Murphy's Magic removed the claim from their web site when it was pointed out that Alan's effect was not the first to capture EVP on a borrowed smart phone. Good to know, but according to the same thread Cesar Alonso admits the methods are different and Cesar's effect is 4x the price.

Hi David,
You're correct about the method and price. I was only referring to your comment, "...what Allan has done is created a unique convincer that is both highly impactful, but .... examinable. Remember, this happens with a spectator's phone and they get to keep the audio file forever! " Regards, Steve

Great review. Very accurate, so no reason for me to do another. I ordered this product the day it came out, and it's amazing. I'm so impressed with Alan's work on this, I am planning on adding some more of his other effects to my arsenal as well that I wasn't considering before. His thinking is superb, and he has really hit this out of the park. It works exactly as described, and I can't imagine someone not being happy with this. Even magicians that buy stuff looking for a cool method alone will be happy with this one. There are also a ton of other applications you can use this device for, and some great ideas are included in the instructions.
With this being said, I have sadly decided not to use the effect in my stage show, and probably not anywhere else either. Not because it wouldn't work or because it isn't great, but because of the fact that it's actually called EVP. Since I present my show as a magician and not as a psychic (think P&T or Banachek style rather than Uri Gellar style), people are going to know it's a trick. I make it clear that I cannot really talk to the dead. If you open up Google and search for "EVP trick", a link to this effect is the first result that comes up. Many people will use the argument here that "if you are doing your job, people won't look anything up", but I really don't think that applies here. Ghost shows are all over TV, and people are really curious about this stuff. While they might not look up how to pull a rabbit out of a hat after they see you do it, there is a good chance they will want to see how this thing is done. Now, I understand they won't be able to just get a detailed description of the gimmick, but they will see they can do the exact same thing for 100.00. I was originally going to buy the Ceseral effect, but couldn't afford it at the time. Now I'm kind of glad I didn't. I don't know how Cesars works, but I'm sure people would just assume this was it. I realize this kind of back tracking could be done with a bunch of other effects too, but I try and avoid anything that is blatantly accessible. I plan on keeping my device instead of selling it because it's just really that great. I do hope that in the future though, creators will take the names of the products into consideration. At the same time, I know they want to sell the things and make them easy for magicians to find. A name like "Spirit Sounds" such as Cesar used would have been perfect for this effect. People can find anything if they look hard enough, but let's not make it easy for them.

One small note. Google uses ur past search data to hone in ur future searches. The hope of some one nailing this who Is not in to magic would be minimal but thank you for the Kind words

@Allen Michael in my review I talk about that.. you don't need to perform the trick as AVP (or call it that) perform it as a "trick" do it as a test in ventriloquism. With EVP you can throw your voice better than anyone. Or you have the ability to speak so that only dogs can hear. Or you've learned to project your own thoughts onto a recording device. I don't play with ghosts either, so I've been brainstorming how else to use this incredible tool

Or you can invite some one on stage. Let them call any friend they like and with no Apparent promoting from you they can reveal the serial number on a bill, chosen card, a coin or its date. Any information you like!

Hey David,
I think that's exactly what I will end up doing. I kind of got it to add to a piece that I have already been working on that would have used it for the EVP effect, but I'll eventually come up with something in the future to use it. I like the ideas! I would also like to reiterate that this is one of the coolest pieces of apparatus I have purchased in recent memory. The quality is just superb. Allen

I don't understand why anyone would care what the name of the effect is. Who announces the name of an effect before they perform it? Other than that nincompoop on Close Up Kings who announced the name of French Kiss every time he performed it, there's no need. What are the odds most people even know what EVP is? You're being chased by ghosts that aren't there.

On Apr 9, 2015, Slackerking wrote: I think the odds are extremely high that a lot of people know what an EVP is. Most likely anyone who has cable television. Ghost Hunters is one of the most popular shows on TV, and has a ton of imitators like Paranormal State, A Haunting, Ghost Adventures, The Haunted, Most Haunted and Paranormal Witness just to name a few, which are just as popular. EVP's play a huge role in these shows, not to mention in popular horror movies. I would never say something like "I will now perform Shattered by Scott Alexander", but your post illustrates my point exactly. In order to use the effect as it is demonstrated in the video, your audience needs to either know what an EVP is, or have it explained to them. I guess you don't have to do that, but it just doesn't make sense to me to do it any other way if you want to use this to demonstrate spirit voices. In other words, in order to make the trick effective, you need to tell them the name of the trick. This is done in the demo as well as the instructional video, so I'm not the only one who believes it's necessary to make sure the audience understands what they are witnessing. Allen

Feel free t call it white nose like the live then. I'm still performing this every day and the name s jr an issue. Not a debate point, just stating a fact from some one actually doing it

There are so many different ways to explain what is happening without saying EVP. You even said one yourself, Allen. It could be explained as a demonstration of spirit voices. I took that right out of your post. If you don't say EVP, they will have a heck of a time looking this effect up. Good thoughts and I am buying this ASAP!

I have an important question. If the phone owner is given a choice of contacting a certain spirit in the spirit world and they choose (A) male or (B) female, can the effect be set up for either voice on the spot?
