Hey guys,
Just curious, I thought Greg Wilson was hosting the At The Table lectures now, but the past few have been hosted by Chris Oberle (who is great) but where did Greg go? Was he just a guest host? Thank you, James

I think Greg brought a lot to the format. He has such vast experience that came to light during his time 'at the table'. He offered something unique in that he taught us how to session with the aim of providing constructive criticism to continuously improve the effect. I thought this was best exemplified in Justin Miller's lecture. Two guys having a jam, drilling down on topics such as performing angles, timing, when to be silent, when to talk etc. This is the kind of lesson that many in the magic community would benefit from.
Chris Oberle is a nice guy, I'm sure, but in my humble opinion I don't think he's ready for it. His questioning is light and often he appears to chip in for the sake of chipping in. He also seems to just babble at times. Sorry... Marcus |

I like Chris Oberle a lot. He worked for David Copperfield and has a lot of chops. Super cool friendly guy. I may be biased though since we are friends.

Who hosted the Dani DaOrtiz episode?
Whoever that was, he seemed unprepared and generally clueless. Dani DaOrtiz is one of my very favorite performers, but the poor host made that episode very difficult to watch. |

That was Chris. He completely lost control; it was very awkward viewing. I was not questioning his technical ability Grasshop34 or his friendliness just his ability to interview some of the top performers in our field.

Yes, but wasnt he filling in last minute for Mike, who was sick? Unless I'm confusing it with a different lecture, under those circumstances I would cut him some slack.

If so, he could've just stayed out of the way (especially since he was unprepared) and let Dani run the show.
That's pretty much how Dani's 2 Penguin lectures went, and they are both superb. |

Hello everyone! Thank you for the most helpful of feedback on the At The Table Experience!
We are currently in a transition from Mike Hankins to Greg Wilson as many of you have identified. Chris Oberle offered his experience to help make the transition more smoothly as Greg Wilson's schedule was interrupted by a month long tour. Greg was able to host when he could and Chris was able to fill in the slots. In May, Greg will be our main host. He will still have some (very few) dates where he is out on tour, however, he will be there with bells on to help you get the most out of your At The Table lectures. You will notice a guest host from time to time, such as Chris Ramsay and Chris Oberle, yet they will be the exception rather than the rule. Thank you again for the feedback and we welcome any open comments that help us make a better lecture experience for you in the future.

Jason, thank you.
That's very welcome news. It's great that you take our views on board. We all want the craft to move forward and this format is certainly helping me on my little journey to being the best magician I can be. Keep up the good work. BTW, the times when the performers have gone out onto the streets and filmed some of their performances and later dissected them through sessioning has been very illuminating and valuable to aid the learning experience. I applaud anyone doing that - it's courageous and very much appreciated. I would love to see more of this. Thank you. |

Glad to hear about Greg hosting. Very cool!
If he's hosting pretty regularly I may just have to become a regular subscriber again. Although I haven't seen one he has hosted yet and I'm a little concerned he may steal the show a bit too much. It's hard to imagine Greg Wilson remaining quiet for more than a couple minutes. |

Over at Penguin, Dan Harlan similarly had to step back and learn restraint, but he's become a very good host. Harlan is especially good at the thankless but absolutely necessary task of filtering, distilling and sensibly framing the internet questions. That's another aspect that made Dani DaOrtiz' At The Table lecture so hard to watch: the awful Skype questions. They're a giant waste of time, from the exchange of greetings to the usually shallow question itself. There was even a 10 year old kid put on screen to ask a question who was in bed falling asleep and had no idea he was on screen. That shows zero judgment from the production team. The internet audience needs to be filtered and kept out of sight. I want to hear and see Dani DaOrtiz, not random magic fans. |

So At The Table is shifting to only 2 lectures each month going forward?
