A hobbyist magician friend of mine approached me the other day and was excited about a Luke Jermay DVD he just got and wanted to know if I wanted to borrow it. While I appreciated the gesture, and did not actually already own a copy, I politely thanked him but told him if he loaned it to me I wasn't sure when I'd actually sit down and watch it. He looked surprised. He said "I'm sure there's a lot of good stuff in there you could use." I told him that as a working professional that I'm really never lacking in material to perform, it's keeping gigs flowing that I spend most of my time working on. He acted surprised. He seems to think I spend my days absorbing all of the methods and material that I possibly can, since I am "full-time." I didn't really expect him to truly understand this; not that he isn't intelligent enough, but simply because the difference in our ways of life are worlds apart. While we are only a few years apart in age, I've been married for 24 years, have owned different businesses, perform full-time, and have raised two children who are in their 20's and have a son-in-law and grandchild. He is single, never been married, works full-time, and has no one to answer for but himself, and only performs occasionally for friends and at magic club meetings. That doesn't make me "better" or "senior" to him in any way, but it helps me to understand this difference when talking to him. He's a good friend and I don't want to ever hurt his feelings. So much of the conversations I see on forums such as this are similar; people with not only different levels of life experience, but performing experience, knowledge, skill levels, etc. However the level of understanding of one another sometimes is greatly lacking. Terribly lacking. While I know it has been several days since the original post, I'm hoping DaiVernon1234 that you have made a decision and did what you wanted to do and learned something. What we really think about which lecture is better doesn't really matter because it is subjective, as someone else stated. Pick one, check it out, and judge for yourself (if you haven't already). If you're asking because money is tight and you want to find a better bargain for the buck, I'm not sure what to tell you since I haven't seen either of them but do like both of the performers. If money is in fact tight, I'd recommend leaving them alone until it isn't. I doubt they are going anywhere and you can access them down the road. In the meantime, it sounds like you have plenty of good material to peruse and work on if you care to. Don't give in to the pressure (whether from other people or self-imposed) to keep up with the latest and greatest and to always be "in-the-know" or on the "cutting edge" of things. That's my $.02, like it or not. All the best to you, my friend.
