Hello again, everyone. I am not manic or anything, just going through a phase. Blurting out questions as they pop into my head.
Now, I only perform for preschoolers, and like the rest of us doing that I love the silliness and slapstick that children in that age enjoy. My daughter has always laughed herself silly watching my antics, but I am not sure she is totally representative for girls that age, sillywise and humorwise. As most magicians are male, this is a manly (well, you know what I mean) business. But - is there a risk we assume that girls and boys like the same things, that we tend to emphasize too much what WE find funny - as we are male? I have only done my show for mixed audiences, and both boys and girls laugh. I haven´t tried measuring who laughs most Do you have any experience and thoughts on this? Is it a non-issue? Håkan |

Under sixes pretty much all laugh at the same things. I wouldn't worry about it in the least.
It is also rare at that age to find an audience of all boys or all girls. |

I agree. Non issue. As girls get older things change, but a sense of silliness doesn't desert women until they reach dating age. I find adult women just raise their eyebrows in disdain at my silliness.

I find all kids are ready to have fun. I don't work silly but we do have fun.
They may get the jokes at different rates but they all gasp at the same time. I might feel differently if I did Pretty Princess Parties but I'm not really doing many of those (and the ones I have done seemed like normal Kids in tiaras and makeup). -Mary Mowder |

When making jokes or gags, I find that girls like pretty things more than boys (flowers, for example) and boys like "yucky" things more than girls (spiders, for example).
