I'm making a table top (about 30" x 20") that will sit on a stand. I'll use it for many venues, but it will look like a typical busking table.

My first thought was to use batting or thin foam on top the board with velvet, wool felt, etc., over the top of that. That way there's some give to the table top.

While browsing at the fabric store the other day I came across rolls of headliner -- it's what they use in cars on the "ceiling." It's a fabric (different colors available) over a thin layer of foam. All one piece. Just wondering if anyone has ever tried that material for a tabletop?

Hi Jay,

It is a very common material to use. If you decide to apply it with an adhesive, use it sparingly. Too much adhesive will seep into the open cells of the foam and when you press down on the surface, it will bond to itself and never spring back. Just a heads up.
