You tried REAL HARD to change the subject. Didn't work ranger. |

That is, of course, if they're abiding by the law (many don't and that's a matter for the various licensing authorities & trade associations to chase up).

One other matter not mentioned is, regardless of the nature of the product being knocked off, be that a magic prop, gimmick or effect, or designer clothing, counterfeit goods can almost always be traced back to Serious & Organised Crime. Make no mistake, the industry both funds, and is funded by serious crime. Also, regardless of the product, those actually making them work in truly appalling conditions, for starvation wages, with no concern for benefits or safety. Apart from the immorality of knowingly purchasing counterfeit goods, understanding the whole industry that purchase supports, and the nefarious underworld surrounding it, there can never, ever be any justification for making any purchase (of any product)- never!

It's no better than drug dealing. Every cent paid to a knock off manufacturer goes directly into criminal pockets.

The exception to this would be royalty free music but very little of that would be fit for karaoke. In addition to a liquor license they also require a public entertainment license. This is in addition to an extension of licensing hours (commonly referred to as a late licence) in order to continue serving alcohol past 11pm. Mark |
