I've been an organ donor since 1969. I was a regular blood donor until a few years ago. I no longer give blood due to complications the last two donations. It is harder to hit my veins and the needle doesn't want to stay in the vein when they finally hit it.
My right arm, which I used predominately, has very thick scar tissue. I did not know nor did anyone tell me about rubbing vitamin E on the puncture site to reduce or soften the scar tissue. -Iven

I started donating blood in college because we found it made for a cheap drunk afterwards (just a beer after donating got you going...in hindsight, it was stupid, but hey, we were young and stupid). Since then I've found I feel better after donating blood. Not just the feeling of altruism, but I think the human body is designed to replenish lost blood. By donating blood you strengthen your system: sort of like exercise for your bone marrow.
In past I've tried doing the plasma donation, where they take out large amount of blood, spin out the plasma, then put the red cells back into your body. But really hated that feeling of cold blood re-entering the vein.

It was 2 years ago I donated a kidney to my son. He had been on dialisis for about 8 months before I could donate. I Had to go through all sorts of testing, including 1 that I failed due a combination of both the hospital and myself that delayed things for over a month. Then I had to lose 50 pounds. I think the worst part was that we had to stay in an extended stay motel in Portland for a month. I'm so glad I was able to donate.
The rest of me is free for the taking after I'm done with it. Bob. |

I have had a lung and and nostril removed to save the planet.
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.
