So...................
i just came back from the Fashion District in Los Angeles, buying cloth for Chair Suspensions. It's also the mecca for knock-off brand names in purses, clothing, watches, shoes, sports gear and brand new DVDs for 5 dollars (New releases including the new Jurasic movie) (minding my own business) This guy shoves his hand in my general direction and he's holding 8 silver dollars.... he says "15 dollars, I have to sell them fast".. I asked are they real ? (as I reached for my magnet) "He said YES" But I heard the tinny sounding clang of steel (as opposed to silver) Anyway... I put my magnet on top of the stack and.... what do you know, the coin stuck to it, amazing! So I looked around to see if he had any enforcers, lookouts or if he was working alone. He was, and I yelled loudly "He's selling fake money... TELL EVERYONE stay away" No one flinched. I guess he must be working the district on a daily basis and buyer beware.

I love the Fashion District, but that kind of stuff runs rampant through the streets. Sad, but whatcha gonna do? If he's willing to take $2, I'll use them for practice. :p

They are fake and will rust in a short period of time

Were they "American" steel silver dollars? In which case, why would you pay $15 for 8 of them when you could walk into most banks and pay a lot less.
(Unless they were "classic" style coins in which case you'd have to go to a coin collector and pay a lot more.) If you wanted them and were worried about rust, how much would electro-plating them cost?
