I love books, I don't think there is any surprise there. There are a few on my shelf which have a special place because I pull them out all the time and this is one of them.
Eric's book is simply awesome. While it's about 235 pages, it's PACKED with used routines, ideas and advice. I thought I would talk about some of the things I really enjoy along the way. Coins: There is a nice bar styled trick which is based off of David Roth's Portable hole effect. There is a bar napkin and some quarters and you are set to go. You can find this one under "Bar Flight" in the book. There is also a nice discussion on having some "borrowed" objects. Cards: There is easily one of the best descriptions of the Trick That Cannot Be Explained within this book. Eric does a GREAT job trying to break down his method which has a structure to it. I really love his thinking here and have applied it to other tricks along the way. If you are thinking about looking into this effect, I would also check out Vernon's Inner Secret's and Giobbi's booklet TTTCBE. Walk- Around: There is a nice strolling piece called "watch the birdie" which is an excellent attention getter. Basically it's a bottle production but the routining and playfulness of the piece really packs a punch. Stage: There is a GREAT stage piece I've always wanted to perform. We sometimes have those things that look amazing and wish they fit our persona or performance style. This is it for me, I've been trying to find a way to put this in. It's called "52 on 1 to 1." I'm giving away a REALLY nice routine that has been comfortably tucked away here. This routine is a STRONG opener on stage and has a really nice curveball with it. You pick an audience member and ask them to name a card, you show a large 52 on 1 poster board as a gag and everyone laughs. When the laughter dies down, you shake off ALL of the cards except the one the person named which is drawn on the board. You can give the board away at that point. Kids: Yup! There are even some nice kids ideas in here as well. The effect "When Children Walk With Canes" is really funny and has some nice moments of fun. There is also the bunny bill trick in here as well for when kids are in the bar. It leaves them with an incredible moment but also a life lesson ;-) Theory: There is a LOT of performance theory in here as well that would do the performer well to read. Eric is a likeable guy and you really see how much he cares about that moment of wonder. He wants people to leave feeling amazed and you really understand that by reading this book. Like I mentioned before, this book has had a special place on my shelf for a couple of years. I love the thinking and it's helped my understanding of magic a lot. Okay enough rambling, if you don't have it just go get it. If you do stage, small venues, strolling, bar, kids, coin magic, card magic or mentalism this book is for you. If you want to think about magic in an intelligent way, this book is also for you.If you are a car mechanic who doesn't perform mystery entertainment... This book is not for you. Thanks everyone! This is the first magic book I ever own since 2009, while I enjoy Eric`s thinking, the tricks in this book doesn't do much for me (I guess that's due to my limited performing vanue and my personal preference) but since I read it from cover to cover, I can see there are tricks for everybody here, the one I always perform is called 3 pieces combo which rely heavily on sleigh of hand, and there are 2 theory chapter call Desire effect and Say anything, these chapter are require reading for all the magicians (the later chapter took me 4 years to understand what it meant. In fact, Im still not sure I fully grasp the concept here, if anyone can help me point out what Eric really means by Say anything)
A wonderful book, highly recommended Thanks for bringing me back the memory smullines, I would have to go back to the book again |

That's exactly what I hope to accomplish with these reviews. Either bring someone back to the good stuff or introduce it to them for the first time.
Eric is just amazing overall. There are a LOT of chapters just devoted to making to think and trying to pass a nugget of great info along. |

"Bar Flight" is simple perfection.
Eric is amazing. His discussion of deck order management is fantastic. |

Totally agree, Bar Flight has been one of those nice "tucked away in book" effects that people just pass by.

Nice heads up.
Since this is the internet, here's a link to the source: http://ericmead.org "Misdirected is the working title of Mead’s next book for the general public, due in fall of 2019." |
