David Ginn used to sell a 4 foot filtered streamer which you could wave and it would change to all black. You could do it reverse.

I've done a few things...
Catch colors in the air and place them into my hand. Then pull out a long rainbow TT streamer. It then gets pushed back into my hand and tossed invisibly into the picture. The TT also allows me to accidentally catch the colors in my mouth, ear, my child helper's sleeve, my shoe, etc. I used imovie to create a video that starts with a black screen then blurs into red then green then yellow then blue then orange then purple. It's timed out with some space, so I can tell the kids to toss each color up and I catch it in my iPhone. Then I shake the phone and the video is timed to blur the colors into a rainbow. Finally the colors seem to pour out of the phone as I tilt it over the picture. And my favorite is the Traveling Pencils by George Iglesias and Nelson De La Prida. It's a very visual vanishing color pencils effect that then reappear in a second color pencil box. And of course the picture was held between both boxes so it gets colored in while the pencils fly through the air. It always gets gasps from kids and adults. Those are few ideas. Christopher |

If you make your own coloring books, then do what I do - have the kids choose a primary color and then find that color on their clothing, the rug, the wallpaper, or whatever and toss it towards the coloring book. For example, suppose yellow is chosen. They all toss "yellow" onto the book and now all the parts of the pictures that are supposed to have yellow are all colored in...yellow only. Now say red is chosen. Once again, show the pages that now have red and yellow filled in, and some orange where the two colors are combined (lesson on primary colors included, no charge!). Last color chosen is blue and when added to the book, it is now a rainbow of colors, all from three primary colors. I have three different books - one for starting with yellow, one for starting with red, and one for starting with blue. The first choice is a free choice (no force) and I pick up the correct book based on that choice. Now I have to force the second color, easy enough to do with the ages of the kids involved, and the last color is then predetermined, so no force is needed.
