Hi everyone
Ive been doing hypnosis for a few months now and I'm looking for good book recommendations to build my library of resources / fill my spare time. My aunt is a hypnotherapist and put me into my first book and has loaned me some of her stuff to expand my knowledge. So far I already have/own. BOOKS: Art of Hypnosys: mastering basic techniques by Roy Hunter. (My first book I read) Reality is plastic by Anthony Jacquin DVDS: The Trilby Collection by Anthony Jacquin at Head Hacking Conversational Hypnosis with Igor Ledochowski (this is a full seminar of dvds I'm part way though, 7/22 dvds in maybe but it is very hypnotherapist based. My aunt loaded it to me.) If I had to say a part where I feel my skills lack so far. Igor calls it H+ , Anthony calls it being The Hypnotist. Haha bit of confidence but each time I try with a group of people Im getting better. Another question is where are some good places to Practice my street hypnosis as I most try with groups of people at the pub. Problem I have is that Australians drink... alot.. and Ive found drunks are hard to hold attention with and after about 9pm it gets too difficult. Maybe I should try some sundays markets or the beach perhaps?? |

I think I've said a magic trigger word now I've been reading more posts on this forum..
Is 'street hypnosis' really that frowned upon? I'm a complete beginner so practicing on friends and friends of friends in a public setting is all I've attempted so far and maybe misguided but I was told be a stage hypnotist that street hypnosis techniques was a good way to learn the basics. |

So I'm not a super active user here. I used to come a lot more when I dabbled in card magic, but now I find myself turning towards hypnosis. I'm not attached to any one style as much as hypnosis in general. So I figured I would come back and see what the experts have to say on the topic. So apparently saying "I do street hypnosis" is the equivelent of saying "I'm a lepper" in this place. The first hypnotist I ever saw was a street hypnotist and I though he was pretty intertaining. And this was before the internet was fast and youtube was a thing.
So for those of us who are new, and don't really know how to get into this, would lead us in the right direction instead of telling us everything we know is wrong. Who are the good trainers? What are some good books to read? Not just putting people into and taking them out of a trance, but book that will explain some good starter skits, or how to develope skits, how to get shows. And if we aren't supposed to practice on people in the street, how should we practice. Hypnosis isn't like a card trick in that you can practice it a thousand times in the mirror until you feel confident enough to take it out into public. How does one go from never having hypnotised anyone to doing stage shows? And if street hypnosis is so bad, what are we missing out in street hypnosis that we can't possibly learn from the stage other than the obvious intimidation of crowd size? Maybe I just need some expation management. But when I used to visit here a while back even the most basic question would at least be replied to with a book or a website or an older thread. Now it just seems to be met with a "your doin it all wrong". Its a little disheartning to be honest. I was looking at the thread earleir where someone asked what good has happened with hypnosis since 2000. And everyone pretty much said everything is going down hill and the internet ruined it. I think places like this site and hypnothoughts are excellent things that have helped hypnosis. Before places like this one really had to search to find help from professionals. Now anyone who is interested can reach out and seek advice from literally the best in the world for advice. People who never would have been exposed to something this fantasitc can possibly find their future career and lifes passion. I understand that not everyone will become a great hypnotist. Just like not all musicians are good, nor actors, nor laywers or soldiers or anything else. But if the big concern is keeping hypnosis legitimate, could someone throw us a bone so we don't make everyone look so bad? |

The problem is - its all been covered on here over and over. If you search the archives there is a ton of information. This forum is also by and large inactive these days. It has burnt itself out. But like I said its all here if you look for it.

Who are good trainers?
Depends what you want. I do four student training class taught in my Vegas theater the same place we I do the show nightly. It is hands on training and you actually get to perform on stage. I teach it along with William Arendell who is an LCSW so you learn the modern science as well. Some people like learning in classroom settings. Jerry Valley and Marc Savard are excellent for that. Richard Barker does a training seminar on a cruise ship which is a fun enviroment with multiple instructors. those are some of my favorites because they also work in the field, make full time livings and are all doing gigs.
