Does any body know if Steve Beams new book/vol. 8 has any Si Stebbins effects?

Up The Ante.....contact Captain Smiffy.....great routine; killer effect and the spectator can riffle shuffle the cards, just as the good captain says! Doesn't get better than that!
What if the Hokey Pokey really IS what it's all about?
My neighbor rang my doorbell at 2:30 a.m. this morning, can you believe that, 2:30 a.m.!? Lucky for him I was still up playing my drums. |

In the Roberto Light Trilogy Vol.3 there is a clever effect called "Danke Mr. Stebbins", in english probably "Thank You Mr. Stebbins", though I think in the newer editions it's called something like "Cheers Mr. Galasso" ("Zum Wohl Herr Galasso").
The effect is, that You find out three chosen cards without ever touching the deck (and therefore without any glimpse...). Clever. Doesn't work with a MD. Then of course the pack has many mathematical properties: -alternating red/black: You can go into Colours On The March. Deal the packet in the last phase in two heaps, one red one black. Then do a faro with those packets and You're back again in Stebbins order! -suit rotation: You can deal the deck in 4 packets getting NDO. -mates 26 cards apart: Reverse the order of the top 26 cards (by shuffling, counting trick?) and go to stay stack effects (You'll may want to do some off center faros to conceal obvious structures...). Al Koran's Encore Card Stab is another strong effect using the fact that mates are 26 cards apart. -values 13 cards apart: Do two faro shuffles and have the cards of each value together, so You can go for instance in Vernon's Matching The Cards Routine from the Chronicles (or just show them, as Ackermann does...) Probably there are even more ideas along those lines. I'm just convinced myself to do again some Si Stebbins stuff as none of the mentioned effects can be done with a MD... |

What about the following extra effect for Up The Ante (thanks to Muecard, Hallo Reinhard!):
Spectator cuts and deals about half the cards on the table, magi looks away. Spectator takes top card of either half and puts it into his right pocket and then one more into his left pocket. He then shuffles both halfes together (lennart's rosetta shuffle). Magi helps squaring the deck, then writes 2 cards on business card. Then go through Up The Ante, but deal 5 instead of 6 pairs. The final bet is then, that on the business card is written precisely what card is in which pocket. You just have to -wath from which half he takes the second card -watch the shuffle - do a top card g*****e while squaring. Now the counting procedure makes sense and You have a strong bonus effect! Have fun figuering and fooling! Friedrich |

I love those ideas Friedrich, they're really great to boost even more the Up The Ante routine.
I added a little something too : after the shuffle & g*****e I let then the spec count (without reversing) 24 cards, the rest of 26 is for the 13/13 ending. Those 24 are then squarred by spec and turned to show a face up card B/N, so I bet on the opposite color N/B for the following card, that's for the first bet. Then the packet is turned around (backs showing), and so I can follow with 2 x 2, then 3 x 2, then 4 and 2 x 4. So I don't have the problem of coming back to a single pair after going up and up, everything goes crescendo and stays in the hands of the spec... and the effect climaxes with your idea of the double prediction... Brilliant routine anyway !

Sorry I made a mistake above (english isn't my first langage) :
it's obviously 'face up card Black/Red, so I bet on the opposite color Red/Black for the following card...'

Try Mystery Spiel too. It's in The Stewart James File. I think Phil Goldstein has a variation too.

Just remembered seeing a great Tamariz/ Carroll Routine called "El rey del corte" on youtube.
It's last part can be done using Si Stebbins (or in this case rather the reverse Si Stebbins...): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fcl6Kj9kvmE&feature=related If You speak spanish make sure to watch part 1 and 2, too, very funny... Hi mimo67,glad somebody uses my little idea ;-) I also don't like this "side bet pair" in Up The Ante very much. Tried to solve it via the layout: 3 pairs of 2 in one row, 2 pairs of 2 in the next, 3 groups of 4 in the third, then I say for aestethical reasons let's place one more pair in the second row...Last row 2 heaps of 13 and the business card in between, so it's a 4x3 square layout. |

And in SACT 7 there is an effect called Si Kick.
Without looking the magi finds out all the cards which were NOT selected (for example first all the black, then all the diamond, all the even ones...). Pretty strong effect, if they believe it's a shuffled deck... |

I think the following idea is so obvious, but I haven´t seen it in print, so here it comes.
After having done one or more effects with a Si Stebbins deck you are just set to go into Giobbe's TNT from Card College Light. It doesn't matter if the Si Stebbins order is disturbed by counting ore something else as long as you can get the cards in black/red order afterwards. In most cases that should be fairly easy. I script the TNT as a demonstration of the testprocedure for joining The Magic Circle. Every possible way of cheating is considered and blocked. You succeed anyway. Although twoo spectators have shuffled the cards. After TNT you are all set up to do Out Of This World! And the spectators will remember the shuffling. What a wonderfull position to be in. Troels |

I should correct myself before anybody else does:
To let a version of OOTW follow TNT has been seen in print, beceause that is exactly what Giobbe suggests in CC Light. He just calls his version Intuition. Troels |

And Roberto's (he is crediting it) TNT is exactly Juan Tamariz' "Neither Blind Nor Silly" (see his book "Sonata"). Jan

On a related note to Si Stebbins, Ben Earl mentions in his DVD set Past Midnight a stack called the Riverboat stack, which he also dubs as the cousin of Si Stebbins. Does anyone know where this "Riverboat" stack is explored further? I believe the stack is quite old.

I want to say thanks to Bryn Williams for the link to the performance of 'Stebbin Out'. I'll have to practice a couple times before performing it, but it looks self working. The only difference I've encountered so far is the performer in the video (nice performance BTW), has to miscount 'COLOUR' because he needs to table the top 5 cards, but in the (UK?) he is spelling it the way they say & spell 'Colour' so he counts 6 as 5, then places the 6th card on top of the stack. Here in the U.S. where we spell it 'Color', there is no need to do this. Simply spell 'Color' as normal and put the next card (the 6th card) on top. Great Routine!

I have just come onto the Mick Ayres Shuffled System in his Act series. mickayreswares.com New stack system to me. Super simple and easy to master. I used Si Stebbins for years, like Ayres better.

Is there any point in using the Si Stebbins for finding out what card they chose? Can't use marked cards or just bend it to find out?
