When I was a kid I saw this effect performed at the local Magic Circle and "Sorta" knew the method. Being penniless, I searched junk shops until I found a suitable vase
and experimented with various gimmicks until I found one easily inserted and removed. I did not know this was supposed to be a "one time" demonstration. So, I performed this as a "gender test" -- any woman could make it stay inside, while any man could not. Only a kid could get away with this innocent innuendo I guess this approach could be used in a Mentalism routine as a "truth tester" or finding the spectator with a hidden object.
