I had a prop, a simple hanky with a wire that slipped over my thumb, years ago. It did not come home from summer camp with my daughter a while ago and I cannot find the same set-up anywhere (or remember the name). Anyone recognize it and remember the name? Any suggestions for the size of wire if I want to build my own?

There was something similar to what you described called waltzing Matilda, that was way back in the 70s. I am sure someone here will know for sure though.

Could it have been "Howie the Haunted Hank"? a bandanna with a piece of c#@t h@$^*r to make the "ghost" rise and settle? The gaff is probably about 1/2 to 3/4 the length on one side of the hankie and has a small "U-shaped" bend at the corner to control the gaffs movement.

It was called Waltzing Matilda. It was created by Steve Dusheck Jr. You can fill instructions on his 1882 lecture DVD. This DVD is worth it's weight in gold, full of usable material.

Ok... That one is way cooler than my old Howie.
When I performed Howie for kids, I always followed it up with an "escape" I would use a white handkerchief in the form of a "ghost" and whisp it from under the "Howie bandana" and all around the room and into my pocket (via a Kennedy Power Reel) It looked awesome if you preset a good path for it to fly. (great memories)
