Hey Yall, I'm stepping in the realm of gaffed cards. I have most used a normal deck but I would like to combine my dexterity with a normal deck and add in a gaff or two. Any resources or effects I should look at first?

Nick Trost has some nice effects with gaffs, you might like to read "The Card Magic of Nick Trost" if you don't have it already (though most of the things I like in it are done with normal cards - either way, a nice book of tricks).
The dvd "Packet Killer" by Simon Lovell - you get a deck of full of gaffs and a dvd with tricks. I really like his ideas on "McDonald's Aces" for the revelations, and he has a nice sandwhich effect amongst others. You also get a same-sided DF'er, which is a nice idea. You might not use all the tricks he describes, but there's lots of gaffs that get you thining and might be handy to have (like blanks and diagonals, and lots more). His version of the "Twisted Sisters" idea is also pretty straightforeward I think, and I like it quite a bit. |

My book "The Imagine Nation Project" features a wide range of effects using gaff cards (Some you can even make yourself at home!)

I echo Carlyle's recommendation of "Packet Killer" by Magic Makers, which comes with a deck of assorted gaffs, and an instructional DVD featuring Simon Lovell. It has rightly received good reviews here on Café. The deck was originally marketed separately as "The Blue Gaff Deck", and includes all your `standard' gaffs, thus allowing you to perform a range of classics (e.g. Ultimate 3 Card Monte, Wild Card, MacDonald's Aces, Twisted Sisters). Simon's teaching is excellent, and he'll help you get started with some of the very best packet effects. See a review here.
Avoid a similar product from Magic Makers called "Ultimate Gaff Deck Kit". While it has a good collection of gaffs too, the accompanying instructional DVD by Kris Nevling is very unrehearsed and extremely disappointing. Disclosure: I've purchased and own both. |

Greg Wilson and I have been collaborating on a gaffed cards project for Murphey's that should be out soon containing gaffs and handlings for mostly original effects. It is similar to what we did for Elusionist's Arcane gaff deck, but completely different effects and the stock will be usable with standard Bicycle decks.
They also, by the way, put out "army of 52", which is the same type of thing - a deck of gaffs and a DVD. Not sure if that is still available. Hey, I'm biased, but I think the latest gaff project will have a lot of great material. Greg is already regretting putting in some items he'd rather keep back for himself. |
