No, but part of the process is in finding and researching this stuff for themselves. No one benefits (the giver, the recipient or the community) when things are offered up free for the asking without putting in any effort. If anything, this is shown and proven here more and more and is often at the root of the problem.
If they can't do something on their own as simple as searching for a link, that says a lot about them and their interest and efforts, let alone commitment. |

That was and is the difference. The mentalism community is one of the most giving here, when done and approached right. The realization that your WERE being offered great information and insights in being pointed in a certain direction or to specific resources, IS helping and assisting the OP. While perhaps not what they were expecting when they came in here, once realized and in the proper perspective, with the added respect for the community and the DIFFERENCES from the magic community, the benefits and rewards here are amazing and often performance/life changing. It's all about understanding, respect and perspective. |

Well, to return to an earlier theme here... I'm not a mentalist although I have a growing interest starting with Osterlind's BCS. I watched the Allison video eager to learn and immediately picked up on Penn's comment. Having never heard of that before, I checked it out on YouTube... unsatisfactory... and then bought a great tutorial for $10 at Penguin. So, yeah, Penn was in error, but not everyone listens, and those who watch and listen can learn.
I do want to congratulate Allison on a well-designed routine. Visual and engaging (the sexy was weird but that's Las Vegas, I guess). Those words don't usually go with mentalism. Looks like she had some help from a stage-savvy director type. |

Never noticed that before! I suspect many people don't read it before they start posting and I believe the most significant contribution to cleaning up Penny has been your tireless efforts. However it seems to be an endless job and I don't know if that will change. I was going to write "Sisphyean job" but that implies futility and your dedication has paid off.

Yes. The title of the sticky at the very top of the forum is "A Posting Guideline" and it reads as follows:
Quote: While the MagicCafe is a place for Magicians to help Magicians, we welcome mentalists to take part in discussions involving their craft. For this reason, we have two forums specifically for those discussions. This forum, "Penny For Your Thoughts" is for the general discussion of mentalism and mentalism related topics. No methods may be discussed here however. The second forum, "Inner Thoughts" is only available after reaching 50 legitimate posts. It is here that more in depth discussions, which may include methods, can be held. Posts with exposure or leading to exposure will be removed from the Penny forum. |

Maybe it shoud be titled READ THIS BEFORE POSTING!!! That might gain more traction.
What would happen if we removed the 50 post requirement from IT? The greater traffic on Penny doesn't seem driven so much by new members as it is by interesting, often topical, topics. And perhaps also due to simply being seen first. Though, again in large part due to your efforts, IT seems to have grown in both quality and quantity. But if the typical Penny topics originated there we wouldn't have to worry so much about locking or moving them. For that matter, what about eliminating Penny altogether? Or, at the very least, making it unsearchable would ease some concerns. |

Unsearable for sure. Now if you just Google Allison fool us - this thread is on the first page and is the only page that is obviously for magicians.
We are just hurting ourselves by having topics like this. I agree with Bill - policing these topics is not working and we need to stop these being searchable. I actually think it might be best if Penny just didn't exist.
There is no holy grail!
