How do you all feel about sending out your information to companies that already have a magician. I mean to agents, theaters, cruise ships, etc. Now I am a comedy magician and I am sending my new promo's talking about my comedy act and most of these places I am talking to have only stage magicians or illusionist. I don't want to offend other magicians but, I do want to get my new promo's out and I do want my career to get better and better. So is there a certain way that I should do this?

I think if it is a place like a restaurant that has a specific magician it might be in poor form. MIGHT being the key word.
But if it is a place like a theater, an agent, or something like that then go for it. I think there are ways to do it right and wrong. BUT I do think you should do it. EVERYONE has.

Thanks Danny. It's not a restaurant I have one that I have worked when I don't have big shows for the past 15 years. He is a great owner. So do you have any suggestions on how you should handle the other magician's or performers if they say anything to you? Thanks

Personally, I have no problem with sending my marketing items to places that I know that have used several magicians and other entertainers in the past. In fact, that's a good sign, as you know that group is already pre-sold on the notion that they need or want entertainment.
I'm of the opinion that some groups keep certain entertainers for a long time, and other groups like to rotate entertainers each and every year to keep things fresh. Also, sometimes the person hiring her favorite entertainers moves on and that opens the door to that group being willing to try out new talent for a change of pace. I have to agree with Danny, though, about a restaurant. If I knew that an organization only used ONE performer, then I would most likely pass on trying to steal his or her customer. Gerry |

Cruise ships do hire other magicians, even when they have a regular magician on staff. Simply because these magician get vacations. The cruise lines hire fill in for those on vacation. It is an opportunity for them to see if you fit in with the cruise ship life an you have a personality to fit with their customers.
Agents, if you can find them, are always looking for new talent. Usually they still want to see you person performing. |
