The following is a playing cards logic/puzzle question my 12 year old son gave me to try to solve. Anyone have a possible answer/solution to this puzzle?
Alice, Susan, David and Steven visited their great Aunt Bess. She took out a deck of playing cards which she divided into the four suits, and handed one suit to each child. She next took a suit of cards from anotehr pack and proceeded to deal them on to the table as follows: 1. She turned the top card over and palced it on the table. 2. She moved the new top card to the bottom of the pack. 3. She turned the new top card over and placed it onto the table. 4. She moved the new top card to the bottom of the pack. 5. She continued the above steps until only one card remained. Then she turned it over and placed it on teh table next to the others. When AUnt BEss had finished dealing her cards, the chidlren were amused to see that all the cards had been placed on teh table in order, from ace through king. The problem she set the children was to arrange their cards (each has one suit) in such a way as to be able to duplicate her performance. IN WHAT ORDER SHOULD THE CHILDREN HAVE ARRANGED THEIR CARDS? It's a standard duck and deal (more exactly deal-duck) procedure. Should be trivial to reverse.
I do not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death my right to say "scr*w you" if you persist. [Voltaire ]
