The box you see before you is a Vanitas box. Yes, where we get the word vanity. And in the Middle Ages, before society decided to pretend that death didn't exist, the vanitas was very important in art and literature.

Inside the box is a beautiful woman who admires herself in the mirror. But at her back, Death is always present, for death is always part of life. We must all live together, but each of us meets death alone.

Now that isn't intended to depress you or make you feel bad, because the point of the Vanitas was that without Death, life would have no value. It is Death that makes life so precious, and that is the gift of the Vanitas. She reminds us to appreciate life while we can, to make each day special and memorable, and to be open to the magic of being alive.

The Vanitas box routine lets you make some small gift appear in the box, a flower petal, a sticker, or other similar object. The set in.cudes a rose sticker and a ticket with an inspirational word on it -- live, love, soar, etc., but the idea is to use a real flower petal or some oth gift you can give to the spectator.
Includes full script, handling tips, and hand finished coffin box that is also great for holding haunted keys. In fact, the key is easily woven into the routine. Makes a good switch box, too, when not doing the routine. I'll begin shipping these Monday. Please allow one week for delivery. $45 shipped priority mail in US, international orders $10 more. |

Could you make the label the same shape as the lid, but inset by about 15mm? I'd like one if so, as I use those tickets in a reading system of mine 😊

Iain,
Not sure what you mean. You mean the art on the box itself or the figures inside? I didn't want to make them too form fitting so as not to suggest the gimmick in play. But I am happy to make custom adjustments once I know exactly what you want. Marc |

Nah, the image on the lid! 😊
Not inside... I say that because it just seems to be a strip, a rectangle...the inside artwork is nicely fitted, for me, visually - the strip doesn't make sense...i would want it the same shape as the lid itself, but smaller - so the lid would create a wooden frame of sorts... Make sense?

Or put a latch on it, and a handle on top instead?

Actually, there is a latch. Will post additional options/pics this afternoon.
Thanks, Marc |

I took Iain's advice and am really pleased with the result. Here is the new cover art.

Got mine today, its very nice...
unfortunately for me, I had one more idea for the front - how about a small brass plaque instead of the artwork? you could have all kinds of things engraved on it and then aged...

Do you sell the box or box and effect along with it?

Yes, the effect instructions and script are included, Pawel. and if anyone likes the plaque idea let me know. In the meantime, I'll look around for such things ...
