Hi has anyone tried performing this in the real world? I find that the gimmick is actually not that reliable and has to be careful with the handling. mine actually "spoilt" after 3 tries. I replaced it with the same material I had from another effect and it seems stronger but there is still risk of flashing. its a good idea but I think it still needs somemore work.

I think most are missing this version and concentrating on the main version they teach which I must say is not reliable enough for the real world.

If the gimmick is faulty, that's on Sans Minds.
However, I have this, and the gimmick would not be easy to make, unless you had a certain card with a certain back, or were THAT good at splitting and dividing cards. So, very few could competently MAKE this gimmick. If you were trained by Gary Plant yeah, have at. Since I know the "gimmick, if you have just that PART of it, and the "other" part was bad, misaligned (which is what I'm suspecting) or "off color" you could MAKE this portion of the gimmick yourself correctly in 5 minutes, with a simple punch in the right locations. From there, it's a matter of practice. Not listening to your ego saying that you've done it right. A lot of magic is about misdirection. It's about managing angles. Understanding the importance of practice. I am fully convinced that most if not all of you that are dogging this effect, did not practice it carefully, and have an ego that believes that you didn't need much if the thing were working correctly. Especially if you're worried about a click noise. If you don't know better than to choose a space where the effect can be managed and you don't understand how to do a sleight without managing angles and misdirection, and noise, save your money - never buy another magic effect again, until you come to understand that practice (deliberately working the kinks out) management, and misdirection principles are not nice, optional things to have in magic...they are necessary. If you haven't gotten that, put the toy down and get something else. That said, the effect does work. It's not self-working, but it realistically and reliably can work. If you're worried about gimmicks wearing out, put a lifespan on them. Many guitar players change their strings every gig, not because they break after one gig. It's because they don't want to chance it. The same thought process can be applied to magic - if you think that X time is enough for the performance use that you've tested, then cut that in half t be safe. If you need extra gimmick, then make them, buy the supplies. If you put in the time, and adjust and test the gimmick for the operation/speed and identify and practice the handling as taught as well as the misdirection, and use common sense to monitor a gimmick that is wearing out and be diligent in knowing your effects and props and understand when the moves are made (misdirection) then this can be a stunner. If you have no audience management skills, and no sense of misdirection, yeah, stay away from this and get a refund. Just know that it's operator error, not the effect. That said...I'm not a fan of SansMinds. I did not LIKE Imprint. I don't buy the "black art" principle used, or the angles, and most of the reviewers were spot on. To say that it is the most LIMITED performance piece is accurate. The number of things that you have to do to make this possible is unrealistic to be a "worker" and, to finish "clean". If you felt ripped off, I am with you. It's about as realistic as doing a "top change" by crawling under a couch at some point during your trick for "cover". Yes it would arguably work, but who's gonna do that? Same with Imprint. I'll lambaste that product all day and take on all comers, as passionately as I'll defend Travel. Is it an amazing trick? It could be, definitely. As much as I dislike gimmicks and SansMinds as a company thus far, this was a good entry. And the guy on Travel does a very good job explaining everything, except one part - he could have gone into a hands-on on the gimmick rebuild, because there are "variables" to the rebuild that mandate an adjustment, but that was left open to interpretation, when it shouldn't have been. But everything from routining, to presentation to handling to misdirection, and even explaining the clean up at the end of the trick, where the attention is on their hands' not yours, is spot on. If they are looking at your hands at the end... you did it wrong. Again, "operator error". Everything you would want to see in an explanation (except the gimmick rebuild and fix/adjust) is there. But there are special ways that that gimmick material needs to be managed, and handled, and none of that was addressed. If it was, or if another video on that were to be released, it would be a prototype video that I think others would do well to follow when they release their "effects". The trick itself isn't bad at all. Debate me, I'm all ears. And I don't even have a do in the hunt. I know no one in magic...but I also happen to be of independent thought and enough intelligence to know when someone's P****g down my back and when it's actually raining. That's the straight truth. Practice, are you kidding??? We need self working and no angles dammit! who wants to spend endless hours practicing like a real magician?
I don't have this yet, but it looks intriguing. Interesting that you hated imprint as the same applies. With a little practice it's very easy to do in real life. Not going to get in a back and forth about it, people like or dislike what they do but I've found most Sandsminds tricks are very workable if you're willing to put in the time to build the gimmicks and learn the handlings. |

Can't you achieve the same visual effect with a snapchange ? No gimmicks , whole or folded cards . And normal magicians skills and routining apply .

My gimmick wans't made very well, it flashed something. I contacted sansmind and they are going to send a new gimmick. The gimmick is clever but indeed, it could break during performance..

I personally present the effect as a pseudo pickpocketing routine when I switch the cards, I don't want it to be visual, I simply instruct them to focus on their card in their pocket, and after a brief talk I reveal I've secretly switched the cards (and that's a good routine for practicing watches steals as well) .

One of the worst gimmick ever seen.... After 5/6 performances get really bad.

Travel is good if you know how to reconstruct the gimmick and re-tie the ela***c . I thought the idea itself is brilliant , it does look very visual . My gimmick too broke after a day , so I sat myself down and made five of these , it took me only 15 minutes to make one . It is a fun gimmick to play with . It does spoil quickly since the material used is fragile , but if you've time , just remake a few and you've got lots of spares to go .

Hello everyone,
Since the release of Travel I got many messages concerning the fact the gimmick didn't last a long time. The problem is the team that makes the gimmick didn't respected the way I make my Travel's gimmicks. For this reason, I invite you to contact me via this e-mail address (pctcproduction@gmail.com). I just ask for a picture of you holding the Travel DVD and I will send you a video explaining you how I make my gimmicks which last long time and that don't flash. Please be patient, I know a lot of people ordered Travel so it can takes time to reply to all of you. But I will! I'm very sorry for this, I didn't had the choice to make the gimmicks for Travel... Don't hesitate to contact me and enjoy your week-end Jordan |
