Does anyone have tips on handling this gem? I've used it with great success, but I'm always on the verge of tipping the audience.

I found the same thing. Great effect but it's so easy to make sleight misalignment that gives away the method.
I don't like being that vulnerable. I work very close to my audience. With a regular deck you might goof but you can wiggle out of it and you aren't caught re-handed. |

That's my thing. I've seen audience members completely freak out and want to grab things. Does using a close-up mat sort of create a sort of mental barrier, and make it easier to do the trick? I have one coming in the mail.

I never use a close up mat. I'm sure that will make diminishing returns easier. Not worth it for me.

I got one mostly for playing Magic: the Gathering on, and figured as a bonus I could whip it out for tricks, but it seems to defeat walk-around magic as I am accustomed.
