I kept wondering when Steve Valentine would go Penguin LIVE, wondered again when I saw "The Walk" over the weekend (the fictional take of the guy who walked on a wire across the WTC towers -- he played the inside guy who worked at the WTC), and voila-! This just might be the first Penguin Live with a magician who appears in an Oscar nominated movie -- and, while I'm doubtful "The Walk" will get any major Oscar noms, as it's unfortunately tanking at the box office, it will get some noms.
Really curious to see what his set list will be. This should be a great lecture. |

I'm really looking forward to this. I hope he covers different material than in his castle lecture

Yeah, both Steve's and Cyril's were filmed on February 6th at Fonogenic Studios.

It is disappointing to read it was filmed at a studio because I thought the lighting was poor, and it was difficult to see a lot of the moves Steve was teaching.
While I have some criticisms about the technical aspects of this particular production, I thought the lecture was great. It was a lot of fun, and Steve shared a lot of practical effects. I loved the effects with the self-working deck. In the second phase, I was wondering what you guys thought of doing it almost in a Dunbury Delusion style? In this case, the card will not be sitting on the table, but you would say: This card tells me the color of your card. It is a red card. Spell R-E-D. This card tells me it is a Clubs. Spell C-L-U-B-S. This card tells me it is a seven. Spell S-E-V-E-N. What was your card? The King of Diamonds? I knew that, turn over the card. Any thoughts? Bobby

Really bam-bam-bam-bam mile-a-minute stuff that will warrant going back and rewind the video. Edit to add: Altoids and wine. Ah, maybe that's it. |
