I first saw Muley Pete's custom made pendulums last January (2015). He carves them by hand and he is eager to do custom work. The material he uses is a tree nut that has an amazing finish. Below is the custom made dreidel pendulum he carved for me. First, I must commend Muley Pete for his excellent craftsmanship. Up close, it is really beautiful. The surface is pearly and seems to have a depth to it. When I pull it out, people are wowed. They want to look at it; they want to hold it. I tell them about the coin handle (from Judea, ca. 100 BCE) and about the dreidel game. Then I tell them it is much more than a game piece. "You are holding a pendulum. Do you know the history pendulums have in divination? Would you like to see a demonstration?" I pull out my casting cloth and by the end they have a unique reading.
Anyhow, if you want a very unique pendulum that fits with your style and character, contact Pete. While you are talking to him, ask him about his custom-built spirit lamps; they are to die for. Pete is here on The Café. Contact me if you cannot get ahold of him.

I can't comport putting a hole in a perfectly good (and what appears to be a well struck) A. Jannaeus, coin.

I have one of Pete's tree nut pendulums, and it is very nice. It came with the pendulum (which responds to a certain "something" if you want it to), a nice chain, and a little drawstring bag. Highly recommended! You can also find Pete on the Moon.

Holes go in plywood, in priests, in the blackness of space, and occationally in heads, but never in ancient bronze coins. Not to worry, Al. I am working on a custom made, nearly invisible, coin frame. (In the picture, the coin is just laying on the string.)
Getting back to Pete's work, his Electro-Illuminarygraphs are real workers and, of course, deceptive and gorgeous. As spirit lamps go, these are the best to work with. Small, portable, and they have a rustic and folksy look. And, did I mention his service is perfection? We talked on the telephone and I told him what I wanted. The next day he called back with questions; he wanted to be sure he was on the right track. He is fantastic to deal with and he is a real Mench.

There are enough ruined coins on the ancients market because one of our ancestors decided that the coin would make nice jewelry. I've seen extremely rare coins ruined that way. Although that particular coin is not rare at all. But nice, especially with the Paleo-Hebrew on it. I went a little wild in Israel last month. First time there and I spent $2,500 on ancient coins. I'd been saving for a year. Got good deals (better then if I bought them here) and met a lot of interesting characters. |

Yes, it is a lovely coin and not rare...but the sitter doesn't know that. I just tell them about its origin and age; they assume the rest. ...and to think you were thinking about selling your collection to get by. I'm glad you are collecting again, Al.

I will refrain from the obvious comment about assumed. I wish to spread positive vibes unlike some other party poopers. Peter it's nice to see someone doing custom work who actually has the credentials and also capable of quality craftmanship. Were lucky to have someone like yourself in the community. I think you should do some bigger aged wood props you may be the next gunslinger in town. Wait you really are a cowboy are you not and an engineer? Perfect combination partner. Drill holes into whatever you want sir that's your business.

Many Thanks for the reviews of the props. I want those looking for items they cannot make themselves to know I am here to try and make your ideas real. Spirit Lamps, School Slates, Pendulums, or other items not commonly found, let's give it a go and see what develops.
Just to let you know, I am a Gunslinger. What is the difference between a Gunslinger and a cowboy? Gunslingers stay a lot cleaner, get paid better and get to wear really cool outfits. How did I get the moniker? By winning Quickdraw contests with a standard .45 revolver culminating in the title Wild West Arts Club 2007 QuickDraw World Champion. No Brag, Just Fact.

I was so tempted that I ordered one similar to one pictured here. Peter had made a Spirit Lamp for me earlier (superb), and this pendulum, which arrived today, is the most organic and just plain cool thing I have seen. Hidden in the guts is a NEO..and the engraving was just perfect. Get one of these...I really mean it.
