This is directly related to Tommy Wonder's idea for having a production load as part of the bag. That said:
Is there anyone making drawstring bags with the same cord as the monkeyfist balls? I was wondering how it might play out if the knot on the drawstring bag becomes the little ball to start a routine.

Starts me thinking at this early hour. There are several sites that show how to tie a monkeyfist ball, of course.
The idea of making a ball "on the fly" magically does have an appeal also -- rolling the cord in your hand and voila' So, rather than having the ball as part of the cord, why not have the cord become the ball?

That's about where I'm coming from - the cups are in the bag - there's the drawstring and the bag itself to work from.
First things first ... getting the props together. I could wait to see Jim Sisti and company ("seams like magic" IIRC) in CT early next year but wanted to ask the forum if that prop is already made. Students with older books on parlor magic with hanks, bags, ropes can probably see lots of options along this path (like having a third layer in the bag so turning the bag inside out could make a large hole show on the side of the bag ... say after a colored ball appears under a cup - ... that stuff)... anyway this is about getting the props made.

I love the idea. But, I would pull the string out of the bag, appear to just roll it up between your hands and switch it for a pr-rolled ball (chopped). Years ago I used the bag (after seemingly putting it away) AS A FINAL LOAD.

Hi Pete yeah - the bag makes great sense as a production load. Is there a literature credit for that idea?
First saw the bag used that way when Tommy Wonder was doing his cups routine at the IBM/SAM thing in NY long ago and did not recall seeing it in the books up till then. The drawstring cord and knot are there waiting for some good tricks. Still looking for a workable method on this: Pull a thread from one's sweater and have that ball up into a ball for the trick. Kinda retract into the fingers like the thread on a reel and then reveal the ball. Been stuck with that image for years and no mechanics. Inspired by a mechanical magic shop item where a silk gets retracted into a prop that looks like a billard.

Have you tried posting that in the triple dare section?

Just go buy a cheap finger reel, and replace the line with your ball material. Then use the Fantasio locking system. Pull out the line, and let it retract up the sleeve. Install as many as you want for each item. Velcro them to an arm band at your armpit.
Reel also available in locking: https://www.daytonamagic.com/control-ree......013.html https://www.daytonamagic.com/locking-con......02b.html |

I like the overall concept... could go from string, to ball, then multiply the balls... then into the cup routine... feels like a nice flow to me...

This might not be visual enough, but it would be cool if the final load was the string so it brings it full circle.

Hi Zach,
Thematically that's sensible. As an encore / after the applause cues that makes sense too. let's say the cord is untied and pulled from the bag early in the routine. Then how it appears under or in the cup, as a cord or balled up could be part of the routine. Rope tricks in miniature would be fun. making those tricks practical to carry and reset is a challenge. I'm going to post in triple dare for methods discussion. Have not tried the Jack Miller approach in a long time. Here's another fun image using the cord in the cups trick: You make the cord into a ball and set a cup on top. Then you command the ball to appear under another cup. The end of a cord emerges from under the first cup and the cord snakes its way to under the second cup. Lifting the second cup you reveal the cord in ball form. Even getting the cord ball to pour as a string from cup to cup would be a feat. Good to have dreams and goals in magic.

All or most of this can be done using the "disMbody" principle.
I'll watch for Triple Dare.
