My daughter's boyfriend's 7 year old daughter has expressed in interest in magic (supposedly for over a year.) The father is thinking of getting a magic kit, and my daughter asked for a recommendation since she knows that most kits are crap.
Do you have any recommendations of kits/videos/etc that will balance the real work with a 7 year old's need for instant gratification? We're in the US. By the way, the daughter is in Florida, while the Dad (and I ) are living on Long Island (New York) Thanks |

In most cases, an adult needs to explain the directions so the child can digest the various tricks.
Any kit will work as 90 percent of the tricks are similar.

The Fantasma Magic kits are pretty well put together and come with DVD instructions.
If she is really interested in magic, I'd recommend getting: 1. Big Magic for Little Hands - this book is designed for kids age 7 and up and is written by Joshua Jay who is a wonderful magician and author. 2. Easy to Do Card Tricks for Children -- written for children by Karl Fulves who is one of the great writers in magic. 3. Two Decks of Bicycle Bridge Sized Cards - one Red and one Blue -- The bridge sized cards are easier for smaller hands to handle. 4. A set of 1 inch sponge balls. Then you can pick as many of the following that you would like: 5. A Ball Vase 6. A Magic Drawer Box 7. A Pen Through Bill 8. Dime and Penny Magic Trick 9. Magic Shrinking Nickels Trick You can find the books and tricks on Amazon or at MJM Magic, Penguin Magic or MagicTricks.Com.
