I hate to start yet another thread on the C&B.
However having been following the threads keenly with a view to buying a set.I came across these on http://www.calmagic.com According to Bill Palmer, he reckons they are by Magic Makers. So I guess they are same as the Peguins (only Brass) but are $22 less. Any other comments, anyone got a set? Howard |

Hope you are right Pete I just ordered. After deliberating for weeks and following the threads I decided on Bazar de Magia Brass ones . I even told Bill last night that I was about to order a set. However I got some coffee cups and made mock up ups of the dimensions of both and decided that as my hands are small, that perhaps the Magic Maker ones would handle better. Also the BdM cups look as if their height when stacked would be some what longer (judging by where the bead is.
Anyway! the deed is now finally done I now await their arrival from Sunny CA. The Complete Cups and Balls BooK is open and ready and my Peguin wand ready to swing into action!! Howard |

Look at the last couple of posts in the review of the Penguin Cups and Balls. This may tell you what you need to know.

Point taken Bill, I had read the comments.
I will report on how the Magic Makers/Penguin cup from Gerry at Calmagic.com are when they arrive. cheers Howard UPDATE: March 13, 2004 I've been a bit late replying...got a virus on my PC ..ended up having to ZAp the lot and complete a reinstallation of every thing. That'll teach me to get some proper Anti virus software!! Any way..Cups arrived from calmagic.com and I have to say I am well pleased. They do indeed stack very well and bead is nicely sealed. anyone wanting a decent set could do a lot worse than these. Howard |

Just a tip, hkwiles: When Pete or Bill make a post they know what they are talking about!! They are a couple of my favs here at the Café and if they read this they'll know it!
All the best, Lee. BTW, I thought that Magic Makers made three types of cups, material wise. The copper ones went to Penguin Magic, Brad Burt got the ones that are brass plated with gold. Haven't heard much but they are supposed to have a "chrome" set.?? Haven't heard who will wind up selling them.
In December of '06 I was diagnosed with a very rare cancer, Dermatofibrosarcoma Protuberans. One in a million people worldwide are diagnosed with this type of cancer annually. Sarcomas account for 1% of all cancers. Knowledge is power!

Magic Makers doesn't advertise any chrome plated cups on their web site. And it appears that the delineation about who gets to sell what is somewhat blurred.
BTW, Lee, thanks for your kind words. I try to be fair when I judge products. For those who saw the post about the crack in the Penguin cup -- please read the following -- I made a horrible mistake. Update on the "crack" in the Penguin cup. March 15, 2004. I made an error. I decided to take another look at the damaged cup this morning and see exactly how bad the crack was. I was convinced that a crack like that could not have developed on its own. Well, I am happy to report that I simply goofed. There was a very small dent in the cup that caused a minor bulge from the inside -- not enough to effect the value of the cups. This, combined with an ill-placed hairline scratch and a smudge made the cup look like it had a crack in it. It doesn't. I'm sure I will be able to polish this out. On the bright side of things, Eric Bolander of Magic Makers, Inc. contacted me via e-mail and offered to replace the damaged cups. My hats are off to Eric and Magic Makers, Inc. for their diligence. I apolgize for any inconvenience this may have caused them. This would be an excellent first or even second set of cups for someone who is either beginning to get into cups and balls or who wants something that looks and handles like a professional cup, without spending their entire annual magic budget on cups. Not everyone is a cup addict like I am. :cups:
