Okay, I found it in Tarbell. It's in Tarbell 3, page 381. It's called "Modern Rabbit Box Production." "This effect is valuable for the production and vanishing of a rabbit. It has also possibilities for the transformation of articles--such as changing a white rabbit into a black one."

I just looked over Jack Gwynne's Color Changing Rabbit illusion:
For those that want to know what the effect is, so they will not go crazy wondering what the effect is, here it is: From page 202 of the book: Quote:
"Jack Gwynne devised two methods for an effect that is startling to any audience. After having produced a rabbit during he show, the magician steps to his table where a small, bottomless cylinder is seen setting. The rabbit is placed into the top of the tube, and while at the same time lifting the cylinder from the table, the rabbit is seen to have changed colors. This is perplexing to the audience, because, obviously the tube is not large enough for two rabbits at the same time, and yet the table on which the effect is performed is thin and undraped. There is a note on the 1st version, referencing Tarbell Course, Vol. 4, page 71. As you can see, lifting tubes and trays and trying to pull the rabbit up into site, would need some prop handling work, and maybe an assistant or added props to put the tray or tube on or in. finding a wooden folding chair today of he correct design to haul around would be a challenge, as only the very old churches and schools would have these chairs left over. No plans are give, measurements, or details on tubes or tray. Just the bare information with line drawings. I hope this answers some of the questions in the minds of those curious about this Jack Gwynne trick. |

That's the one I was trying to find! Page 71 volume 4. Timing is important in the transformation. Thanks.

Great video, Jonathan. Almost captures your talent. I say almost because you've got to be seen to be believed.

The one found in Tarbell might be workable with some adjustments. I am also looking at designing something with a table base for the load chamber.. Thanks for the ideas guys.

If rabbits are the right size for your props, no problem. But if you would like to use a smaller animal, chinchillas would work. There are back and white ones too.

In a great show I saw years ago (at a convention, don't recall who), the magician produced a large rabbit. After some business, he was placed in a box with a silhouette of a rabbit on the side. He pushed the ends of the box together, and the silhouette shrunk as the box did. Finally the box had shrunk to a small size, he reached in and pulled out a tiny baby rabbit. The audience went nuts! Does this ring a bell with anyone?
