Creator: Chuang Wei Tung
Publisher: Taiwan Ben Magic MSRP: $ 25 Skill Level: intermediate DVD Run time: 43 min Type of effect: card tricks Manufacturer's Write Up: Taiwan underground superstar Wei Tung has created over 5 brilliant playing card tricks from a REGULAR deck. Each effect is diabolical, practical and more impossible than the last. This project comes straight from the fabulously creative mind of Wei Tung. The amazing new flourish Double Lift looks difficult but can be mastered with minimal practice. The signature routine is ideal for stand up, close up, no table required, and walk around magic. Complete routines and techniques are taught in depth. Exclusive Skills - CWT Double - CWT Switch Features - Solo Triumph - Two Cards Monte - Utopia Aces - Nonstop Aces - Taco Aces Extra Bonus - Invulnerable Aces - Combination Routine How accurate is the ad copy? It's a little over-hyped but not deceptive. What's in the box? DVD Key points: These effects were fun to watch the first time, but with the lack of audio explanations, 43 minutes of instruction, "stop and go" freeze frame teaching, the entire project became too unbearable to finish. Admittedly I skipped through a lot of this DVD as it was just too hard to watch. How are the production values: nominal, shot with low level lighting, and the on screen text and wipes looks like it was made with Windows Movie Maker. Background music is a looping 5 minute synth track that gets super annoying after... 5 minutes. The various settings are mildly interesting. Is it well taught: over the shoulder teaching shots which is nice, but absolutely no voice audio, the entire DVD is dubbed with an annoying music loop, and the instruction is all given through on screen text. The entire DVD is 43 minutes and that is too long to sit through for 7 tricks with no patter and no live performances. I will also add that the tricks are not easy, nor are basic sleights taught - so anyone who is new to card magic will receive no mercy in trying to keep up. My thoughts (what I personally liked/disliked): I liked very little about this project. Storage? Does it "pack flat?" The tricks all use a standard deck of cards, many of the tricks require you to know one of the CWT sleights taught at the beginning. Does it "play big?" I'm sure these effects would play well if you have the patience to sit through this DVD - learn them and then develop your own routines. How practical is this in the real world? (can it really be done?) at the end of the day these are just card tricks. Thanks for the review! It kind of follows the impression you get when seeing the trailer
