I was in a car accident yesterday (all involved were uninjured).
My car was towed a quarter mile back to my house, and it is parked along the curb. I'll try to get with my adjuster on Monday, asap. This morning (Sunday) I noticed a reddish fluid has been leaking from the front section of the car, and a trail of it is slowly making its way down the curb. My guess is that it is brake fluid, but I'm not 100% certain. My question is, what's the best way to clean it up? Thought about - going out there with a bunch of old rags and sopping up as much as I can, put 'em into garbage bags and let the trash man pick it up...or take 'em to a hazardous waste disposal place (probably the better option?) - taking a hose and diluting/spraying it all down. Any thoughts to do with the above would be appreciated!

Try kitty litter or an absorbent material "like" kitty litter found in most auto parts store. However I don't know about the disposal laws in your state, so the auto parts store might be the best place to start first.
I'm happy that no one was hurt in the accident! Mark

Searching on the net is suggesting that brake fluid ain't reddish. What I'm seeing on my street is a dark, reddish-brown color.
Edit: ah, transmission fluid.

"Call your city or county offices in order to find out where the approved collection sites are. Even after contacting those offices, you'll want to call the collection site to be sure that they are still able to accept your fluids. In many cases, auto supply stores will take the fluids and oils from your car and dispose of them for you. Participation in fluid recycling programs is voluntary. Be sure to treat the people you interact with courteously and be willing to abide by the rules and guidelines that have been set forth by governmental and environmental agencies."

Thanks, balducci!
I've taken stuff to my local hazardous waste place before, but it was always leftovers still in their bottles. I'll call and we'll get it figured out. Hey, Mark, thank you, too. I'll give the kitty litter a try. Read that I'll need "unclumping" litter, and I'll have to grind it into the street with my feet with hard soled shoes I got hit by a person turning left across traffic, but didn't see me coming from the opposite direction. All the damage was on the driver's side - mainly in the front, but a lot of scratches and dents "glanced" their way back to around the rear tire, the damage lessening as it went back. When the tow truck driver asked me to line up my car with the back of his truck, as I was turning the steering wheel I heard and felt a very loud "pop". The tie rod snapped. In order to get the car pointed in various directions for loading/unloading, he had to kick the tires into place.
