I've never bought from them, but I can tell that according to the pics at their website some illusions look to be licenced props but others look like copies... What illusion are you interested in?

Hi! This is my first post here.
I was a professional magician for 13 years (I now make video games for a living). I cruised the world with my illusion act. And, when I first started doing illusions, I bought them second-hand (= "used"). This is always a lottery regarding the condition they are in. Sometimes they were just in need of a lick of paint. Other times, which was the commonest condition, I had to re-build them completely. So, I found that buying illusion plans, and finding a good cabinet maker, and getting them to build it for me, was the cheapest and best way to do it. You can scale the illusion to suit your Assistant much easier than buying something already built. Eventually, I developed the skills to make my own illusions. And this was by far the cheapest way to do it. I even invented a few illusions of my own! So, having had a look at Illusionswap, my advice would be to avoid them. They are very over-priced, and they don't look in that good a condition for the money they are asking. |

There's always an element of risk with buying anything used. I haven't personally used illusion swap and thus have no opinion of them. However I have dealt on a fairly regular basis with MagicAuction.com. I have both bought and sold a number of illusions including several that are in my current working repertoire. The way they work is great. You find an illusion on their site and email that you want it. They have the buyer find out the shipping cost and you send the money (prop plus shipping) to MagicAuction.com. Only when they have the money in hand do they have the seller of the prop ship it. When it arrives you look at it and make sure it is in the condition that was promised on the website. If everything is good you contact MagicAuction.com and tell them to release the money to the seller of the prop. Then and only then do they send the money to the seller.
This allows for protection for all parties involved. The seller knows you got the prop and knows they will get their money. You know that the prop is in the proper condition and MagicAuction has assurance that the prop was shipped, it arrived, and it's in proper condition. I've only had one issue with a used prop that arrived in terrible condition. (Beat to hell and broken). This was not as advertised and so I told MagicAuction and they dealt with the seller and arranged for some of my money to be refunded so I could have the prop refurbished. They totally went to bat for me. I can say that another auction site that I dealt with once or twice was not the same experience at all. A prop arrived in terrible (non-working condition) and the site refused to do anything to help out. Needless to say I don't deal with that site anymore... Murray |

I second Murray on MagicAuction.com
I have purchased several small and large illusions through them and they are the BEST to work with. |
