I am devolping an act that I would like to include a rabbit from hat routine I devised. I will however only perform this routine a few times a year. I am not prepared to care for a bunny (wife refuses to allow this). Is there a place in the Southern California area, where one could rent, lease a bunny as needed? I know this sounds bad, but I am only thinking of the bunny.

Call Rent-A-Rabbit. Lol
It is nice that you consider the care of it. Good luck finding one. Would one of the fake rabbits work? Tom Boleware

Never heard of anyone renting a bunny. Perhaps you could find someone who owns a bunny that will let you borrow it.
However, my first thought is to recommend that you re-design your show to not include a rabbit production. There is an unlimited number of other things you could do. I use a rabbit regularly in every show and personally I would not want to rent a rabbit. You need to work with your animal. You won't know the animals temperment or it won't be used to you or the way it will be handled.

Well I kind of have my heart set on a rabbit production, because most people have never seen one done from a hat. The one I do is very silly and ends with the production of an oversized stuffed rabbit from the hat. I would like to incorporate a real rabbit for the awe factor of a real animal. I never had thought about the rabbit needing to be comfortable with me (goes to show I don't deal with animals much)
I guess I will just stick with the big bunny production. That's a good name for a movie studio don't you think. Big Bunny Productions

I know that when I lived in Oklahoma City there was a pet farm that would rent their rabbits to local magicains at a fair price. I think it was only $5 a day. Compared to care and cost of raising one that is cheep. I just asked the same question here in Florida and they told me about another store that lets people take a rabbit home for a week to see it they really want to have one as a pet. I am guessing if they let people test them they may be willing to rent them. I would just call your local pet stores and farms. Good Luck!

Thanks Jazzy, that's what I was wondering about. It does seem weird though that someone would... pimp out a rabbit.

Ed,
Just be careful of who you get it from. I just remembered one time I got a rabbit from Texas and was getting ready for the show. The rabbit wasn't very friendly so I asked the person that supplied the rabbit about it and they decided now was the time to tell me that he rabbit was not ever handled before. Little late in the game. |

Hi,
if you find a breeder in your area they might well rent you a bunny for the day. Mark Raffles used to do just that for his live baby chicks cups and balls climax Phillip |

G'day Ed
Here is an idea. I was recently offered a cute bunny but really have enough of these furry friends at home. However I realised that my adult daughter may enjoy one as a pet so discussed it with my wife and we presented her with a most welcome gift. Being the nice person that she is she has agreed to loan it to me when needed and she spends plenty of time handling it. It is named "sox" as it has dark feet and it came out of the roll over box last Wednesday to the amazement of the audience and later retuned to it's devoted loving carer after the show. Lots of people have been made happy by this little furry friend. Bob Latta (Troppo Bob) :jump: |

Hows about offering the rabbit as a gift after your show to anyone at the party. It hard to turn down such a cute offer like a little bunny rabbit.

Oh please no, don't give a living creature as a "gift" -- you won't do the animal or the recipients any favors.
Some schools have classroom "mascots" that you can borrow if you make friends with a teacher or admin. A bunny that is raised by a class of 4th graders is likely to be very tolerant of your magic act. |
