According to "Dr. Edward Saint ...or Sinner" by James J. Matthews, The "Carney" years 1916-1933. "His [Saint's] correspondence would indicate Dr. Sesrad [a.k.a. Edward Saint] was with the [Johnny J.] Jones Circus from 1927 to 1933, which overlaps his meeting with Bess Houdini".[1930]. Saint likely billed myself as "The Wonder Man," Sees All-Knows All-Tells All, The International Mentalist, SESRAD, Psychic Scientist and Crystal Gazer. Saint's legal name seems to have been Charles David Meyers. It was (and is) not unusual for entertainers to have multiple identities. If I remember correctly Tony Curtis is a.k.a. Herman Schwartz. Troyal Garth Brooks is known as Garth Brooks. Issur Danielovitch is Kirk Douglas. Norma Jean Mortenson became Marilyn Monroe.

It's true that entertainers often change their names .. Perhaps ONCE .... C.D. Meyers(if that really is his real name) had a dozen or so alias's .... He purchased fake degrees under different names. Quite the scam artist..... he never was a Dr..... EVER!!!!!!!

OLD FORGOTTEN? TERRITORY
On Magic Café, Magicians of Old, Dr. Edward Saint. 2 Mar 15 Leo H. posted the following: Slim--you need to obtain a copy of the October 1995 issue of Magic. It's still available on their website for $6.50, and a bargain for the information you will receive on Bess and Saint: http://www.magicmagazine.com/catalog/pro......ts_id=50 It contains David Charvet's article "Beatrice Houdini" which details much about their relationship, and more information on Saint that you're searching for. According to magician Arnold Furst, who met Bess and Saint at the P.C.A.M. convention in July 1934, he believes that they were indeed married. Furst became a close friend of the couple and visited them on a daily basis. He also worked as Saint's typist and secretary for a time. According to Furst, if they had not been married, it would have been a violation of the Mann Act, a law enforced at that time that made it a crime for any man to transport an unmarried woman across state lines for immoral purposes. Hardeen also believed that Bess was living in sin. When Jack Hayman visited her on the West Coast from New York, he relayed Hardeen's belief. She replied, "How can he be so stupid? He knows me well enough to know that I wouldn't be traveling with someone unless I was married to him!" You stated 3 Mar 15 that you would obtain this material. It would seem now a year later you do not accept this material as any proof that Beatrice Houdini married Edward Saint. My I ask why you do not accept Bess'claim that she and Ed were a married couple? |

I've researched far beyond this superficial opinion. Before Saint died (Not his real name) he signed a form stating he was not married and had no dependents. There is no marriage license and Saint denies they were married. Even Bess' brother in law thought she was lying to him and said so. Please show some proof they were married. Please give it your best shot since no historians have succeeded so far Simply post a copy of the license here and it will all be resolved.

I'm repeating myself (so my ex-husband always told me) but I confess: Slim you are ON A ROLL here, and not just your usual ROTFLMAO
I knew nothing about Houdini before this thread started, and as it progressed, I became even less interested No seriously, this is one occasion where I enjoy knowledgeable people talking, nay dare I say it, teaching me something I was oblivious about. So to you, and your sparring partner miistermagico: xxx Morgaine |

Dear Slim,
Somewhere along the line I have lost the copy of my marriage license. I had a flood a few years back in my basement and lost many documents including my military records, high school diploma, rare and scholarly books, letters from the ASPR, Martin Gardner, James Randi, Paul Kurtz, noted ancient historians, newspaper clippings, furniture, etc. Whether my marriage license was lost in this same disaster I do not know. The church where my wife and I were married was closed many years ago. Whether or not documented proof exists about our marriage I have not the faintest idea. All I have is a few photographs. Perhaps some documentation of my marriage exists somewhere with the city, the county, the state, etc. I do not know. So far you have presented no evidence Saint denied he and Beatrice were married. You have NOT presented Saint's signed statement or have directed a puzzler to it. I do think it is important for friends to be allowed to disagree and the beliefs of others to be respected. I think I have learned people believe their own ideas to be the best. |

It is up to YOU to prove your version of the story. You are claiming that Bess and Edward were married. Simply prove it!!!!! They would have been newlyweds. Where are your records and proof? Please point out ANYWHERE that Edward Saint claimed to be married to Bess Houdini. Where is your proof? Edward Saint always said he was her manager and NEVER her husband. I'm waiting for proof of your claim.
