I will have my own cards printed by US playing card company. They will have normal bicycle fronts (or something very close), but I am currently having the backs of the cards designed.
The special feature I will include is a marking, so that every deck CAN, but doesn't have to, be used as a marked deck. In terms of back design, what else would you consider? BONUS QUESTION: any ideas what I shouldn't forget about printing the card case? Are there cool effects that I can lay the basis for by clever card case design? Hm, need to think about that more. Thank you!

In any case, I would take RED colored backs. They are used these days much more than blue ones (by magicians).
The writing with a sharpie on a red back is much more visible than on a blue back. Besides the marking, I would include a subtle "one-way" clue. (cfr. Phoenix cards...) |

Excellent point, thanks for the hint on the one-day.
I'll have reds and blues, I think. Chicago Opener is super strong, other color changes, too. If these will be my definitive cards, I better have both colors

I think it's very important that a marked deck (or any deck) looks familiar and innocent to the audience. So I use red Bicycle 808's (Richard Turner Gold, actually). I mark them myself. I use a code I worked out which is much subtler than the "wheel" codes or stickers that I have seen. The reason I use red is that I have yet to find a good ink for the blue cards.
You can still (as of April 2016) find some very expensive factory-marked 808 decks. USPCC will no longer make 808's with altered backs. They cite copyright/trademark rationale. They introduced designs called "Mandolin" and "Maiden" that look a lot like 808's. The backs of those can be customized. I forget what the minimum buy is. You can also buy various versions of marked Mandolins and (probably) Maidens retail. Google it. Here is a discussion of the M&M's. http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......c=533641 "Maiden" review. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=reZ3OsWuQLk "Mandolin" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u_wApAnopQA |

If it's possible, why not include your name and contact info in the back design? That way if you hand out a selected card as a souvenir, it acts as a business card.

Marked, and one way.
Perhaps (perhaps) a hidden reveal somewhere on one back? To have a normal border, thin border, or be borderless - that is the question. |
