I am looking at the Don Alan Mini Chop cup, or even the Petite "micro" Don Alan. Or even the mini paul fox cup. (links Below)
Paul Fox Mini https://www.rnt2.com/paul-fox-mini-chop-......ish.html Don Alan Mini https://www.rnt2.com/don-alan-mini-chop-......nze.html Don Alan Micro "Petite" https://www.rnt2.com/don-alan-petite-cho......nze.html I am having a REALLY hard time getting a good sense of the size of these things, I'm not sure if I want to go with a Mini or a Micro, Plus I want a regular sized chop cup for like parlor shows. So I don't want to end up needing to buy a large, medium, mini, and micro just to get the two sizes I am looking for. The mini / micro is going to be used strolling, table hopping, next to the bar, etc etc. I want it small enough to carry in the coat pocket of my suit, or in a splash bottle gimmick or holder of some sort without protruding from my body too much. I wear very fitted tailored suits. So, I don't know which to get. Does anyone know of any video's on youtube or anywhere, to see someone handling one of these items? Does someone own one or even both of these items (or similar product) that could make a little 2 min youtube video and send a private link? If not, maybe just some pictures alongside a deck of cards and a sharpie cap or soda can, or anything to get a good size comparison so I can get a better visual of how big each of these are? I'm ready to pull the trigger on one of them, so if someone can help out, it would make this process go a little faster for me. I would really appreciate it. Thanks! |

I have the Paul Fox mini - have had it for about 2 years - it is my go-to for strolling magic. Fits in my jacket pocket or I just carry in my hand. Load balls in back pocket (small dog toys).
Look under specifications. It gives dimensions for inside diameter and recommended load diameter. These are the dimensions that will give you a sense of the cup size. You may also look at Jamie D Grant's Magic Friday section of the Café. He covered the mini cups there. Hudson |

I use the mini Don Alan for strolling. I'm perfectly happy with the size (it's not too much of a bulge in the jacket pocket). Im not tempted to switch to a smaller one. Not sure if it would be too small for splash gimmick. My regular size cup fits the splash perfectly, but the mini might fall out through the spaces.

OK OK OK.. I think I'm going with the mini... Not the Micro....
Now I can't decide... Paul Fox Mini or Don Alan Mini.... I don't KNOW! lol Any suggestions to lean one way or another? I think I'm going to order it this weekend. What about color ball preference with either a copper vs a silver cup? Thanks! |

I like blue with copper. Though most don't care for blue balls for obvious reasons. Yes because that joke does suggest itself from spectators now and again.
Red and silver work really well I think just due to such contrast and chrome is vivid and red is a vivid colour as well. Of course this is just opinion. Oh! You must also think about your outfits though. A blue ball and a blue shirt may lead to spectators losing clarity as the ball is moved in front of you. |

I use copper because I like copper ... I don't think the audience cares at all.
I have a full size aluminum Don Allen that I use with mini baseballs and full size for final load. I prefer the heft of the copper cups and think that the mini aluminum would be just too light for my taste. I selected the PF instead of the Don Allen because it had a slightly larger final load. I use either white (baseball) or yellow stinger (RNT2) for visibility. I really like the visibility of the yellow, especially for strolling where you have less control over the surface you are working on. Hudson |

My advice is to not lose too much sleep over it. Either cup is going to be great. Choose whatever ball color you like. This is a right-under-their-noses trick, so pretty much any ball will be fine. I would go with whichever cup is cheaper, or can be found used. Sometimes, we needlessly agonize over details (I do it, too), when just diving in is fine.

I have a Don Alan mini aluminum cup from RNT2. I prefer it because it can pass for an oversized shot glass so I have a routine that uses the olives with various bar related items - lime/corks/shot glass as options for loads. The stock red balls are nice for a more standard family friendly version. I picked up mini dog toy tennis balls at a pet shop for final loads

I get everything here, so don't know about FB, although it might be worth poking around.
Good luck! |

Mini Paul Fox is my preference. It fits easily in my purse.

What influences the decision on the size is also the production of "large" loads. When the cups are very small the large load is really less impressive and less of a surprise... unless it's a liquid finish which is easier to perform with a small cup (soft ball and elastic to close it and switch of small cups)
The idea isn't mine: it was routined by Denis Loomis for his micro-chop cup !

I just saw this thread and thought I would wake it up. For me, the Don Alan Mini Chop is perfect. I also like the Paul Fox Mini but fancier where the Don Alan looks more practical IMO. You cannot go wrong with either one.
I also like Micro Cups but due to tiny size, has its limitations. I see it as useful only for intimate situations. Just too small for a group of spectators. RNT2 has a nice selection of mini and micro cups in a variety of metals and finishes. If you want to treat yourself, get one of those Don Alan Mini Chop Cups in Sterling Silver. Both beautiful and functional! It is also a tiny touch heavier than the copper version. Expensive but well worth it IMO. By the way, when selecting a color for the balls, you want a color that can be easily seen on your close-up mat. If your mat is black, the red balls RNT2 includes with many of their items is perfect. |

When trying to get a fix on the size of a cup, the question to ask is what size of final load ball will it accommodate. The dealer should be able to answer the question - golf ball, racquetball, tennis ball, baseball, or softball.
