If I start in Stebbins and do a couple of faro shuffles I end up with 4 of a kind.
What is the quickest/ easiest way of shuffling that 4-of-a-kind order into alternating red/black order? Is there a way to do it without 6 in-a-row faros? |

Not knowing the sequence of tricks you have in mind makes this very difficult, but here are a couple of ideas.
#1 -------------- After you end up with 4 of a kind, deal all the cards face down into 4 piles (this is an "anti-faro 2"). If you don't want the Si Stebbins stack reversed, then you can deal the cards into four face up piles; otherwise, with the face down deal the Si Stebbins order is preserved but will be reversed. Don't know if any of that matters to you, but the important thing is that the red/black order is strictly alternating. Alternatively, you can perform an anti-faro 3, after which you can do one more faro which will put things back into red/black order. #2 ------------- After you have all 4 of a kind, you drop groups of 4 cards each into 2 piles until you are left with 4 cards. Split those among the two piles and all of the cards will be alternating red/black. This is much faster than method #1. Note: if you now join the piles, two cards of the same color will be at the center of the deck. I have some displacement ideas to take care of that but don't know if this is of interest so I'll leave it at that. Obviously, you need a justification for either dealing procedure, but assuming you can create one in the context of your trick it's a fairly direct way to go from 4 of a kind to strictly alternating. I don't know of a direct way to shuffle the cards back into red/black sequence unless you do a handful of displacements; which if you're going to do that, it's easier to just do the 6 other faros while you talk.

Just an out of the box idea, somewhat tied to what Steven was mentioning, is to do it in the context of another trick. For example, one could even have a spectator shuffle the cards into oblivion, and then proceed into an effect that separates the cards into red and black by the end of it. A few examples are UF Grant's Impromptu OOTW, slop shuffle triumph, or something like Pit Hartling's Chaos via drop stacking. Then you just perform one faro after the effect and you're in alternating R/B order. The best way to go about it really depends on context.

Cheers for the cool ideas guys. Much appreciated
Yes, there's various ways of doing it via dealing, but it looks like shuffling is only possible via faros. Hmmmmm.... Will ponder |

2 anti faros (i.e. deal into 2 piles twice) or 1 anti-faro-2 (deal into 4 piles)
