I found a trick deck that I am not familiar with. Glued behind each card is an ACE of Diamonds.. The cards are really glued.. The only card that doesn't have a glued card behind it is the ACE of Diamonds..Also the front card of each pair is cut slightly shorter Can anyone tell me what kind of deck this is? Is this Svengali?
Thanks Gadi |

Is it a tossed out deck of some kind
that's my best guess |

If the cards are glued in a band through the center it is a tossed out deck more or less.
This was actually published in the Tarbell COM. It allowed the performer to overhand shuffle the deck faces toward the audience showing different faces. The deck was wrapped with a rubberband and the fingers riffled up one edge of the deck it would then land on the force card. I don't recall if it was tossed into the audience in the Tarbell instructions but if so this could have been what inspired David Hoys version as I believe this was in print first. _ |

I also recently found a gaffed deck that I'm unfamiliar with (I'm not a big card guy). It's a Fox Lake rough and smooth deck, with the outside of the paired cards being blank. (The roughed backs being the normal rear card pattern, the smooth backs being the faces of the cards. If that wording makes a lick of sense)
Aside from it being rough and smooth, I am not sure if this deck is made for a specific trick or what, |

That sounds to me that it might be a Nudist deck. I'm pretty sure that it is what is now more known as the Mental Photograghy deck.
If I read the description correctly that sounds right. |

I don't know the name my best guess would be Mental Photography but you can use it to either force the Ace of Diamonds by putting it in a normal deck and ruffling through it or using the entire deck and fan them to show they are all different then riffle through it to reveal they have all changed to the Ace of Diamonds

After looking up the Mental Photography deck, I see you are both correct! Thanks, guys! Good call!

If it was glued in the middle it's a Telomatic...if it's glued on the end it's a Psychomatic...the Telomatic works well as a tossed out as a spectator could peek at either end with the deck totally within their hands, as long as the deck has a rubber band around the middle...Psychomatic not so much, better if you hang on to the deck and riffle it for the spectator...Psychomatic is fairly easy to find and purchase, however there are not many sources for the Telomatic, at least not that I could find...
While the amount of water has remained static, the amount of Tequila and Triple Sec available for making Margaritas has expanded enormously. So you see, we have made progress after all. ~Anonymous

Race, per bigfoot's post above, gluing pairs together allow the performer to overhand shuffle the cards, face out to the spectators, and they see all different cards being shuffled. Then the rubber band is placed around the deck and tossed out into the audience where the force card is selected.

Oh, I'm sorry, when I thought "glued" I was picturing it all wrong. I get it now. Thank you!

The deck the OP mentioned is 'Siamese Svengali Pack' published in "Lu Brent Card Mysteries" (1937). It is a variation of 'The 'Ever-Ready' Forcing Pack' first advertised by Ford Rogers in September 1912 issue of The Sphinx. The difference is that the forcing card is long card in 1937 version and forcing card is short card in 1912 version.

Gadir... I believe Mr. Tessler's answer is the most accurate for the deck you found.

It's a mirage deck, the full description fits for it.
